Job description

Redwood Credit Union is seeking a DevOps Engineer II, who will be responsible for the design, implementation, management, and security of systems and environments using DevOps tools and practices. This role works collaboratively with other administrators, engineers, developers, and leadership to build observability and automation into systems and procedures, with a focus on increasing repeatability and reducing manual operations in infrastructure and development teams. The DevOps Engineer II participates in project teams where automation services are required and use project management practices to support initiatives. This includes providing support for incidents or outages and conduct root cause analysis, as well as document and implement the necessary solutions.
 
Key Responsibilities
System Automation and Administration:
Build automations using tools and scripts in a Windows / VMWare environment to automate developer and IT Operations functions.
Develop and implement test automation systems, working with Programming and QA to implement CI/CD practices and tools.
Implement observability measures such as monitoring, metric gathering, dashboarding, etc. to provide feedback and real-time information streams around environment and processes.
Identify opportunities for automating IT systems and processes using custom built or off-the-shelf tools.
Mentor, teach, champion, and encourage an Automation mindset amongst the IT department and other business units.
Oversee work processes and activities of team members within the DevOps team as assigned.
System Administration and Security:
Participate in system administration, troubleshooting, and other areas of IT Operations duties.
Develop operational processes and guides for existing systems that provide other teams with the ability to manage and support day-to-day.
Lead complex technical projects by designing and implementing new systems and infrastructure with minimal guidance.
Document and resolve both end user and infrastructure related problems.
Prioritize problem resolution and daily schedule as work dictates.
 Formulate and ensure adherence to quality assurance standards internal to the department and external to end-users.
 Develop and maintain guides, network diagrams, procedures, and business continuity information for system administration.
 Arrange for full availability via phone or e-mail for communication during scheduled hours.
 Develop and employ working relations with third party vendors to assist in maintaining equipment and resolving related problems.
 Uphold established department service standards.
Security & IT Development:
Practice industry security standards regarding servers, VMWare, Microsoft, Database, Storage, and network hardening. Maintain effective monitoring and reporting of logs and service alerts.
 Maintain availability, patching and security controls of Microsoft and VMware based server platforms.
 Respond to and report security issues involving hardware and software.
 Evaluate, research, and test new industry security practices and recommend solutions to IT management.
 Update core operating systems and apply appropriate patches as security flaws are identified.
 Solve outstanding security issues through research and management suggested direction.

Minimum Qualification: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive programming / scripting experience with Powershell, Python, or similar.
  • Experience with VMWare automation.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools - Bamboo, Bitbucket, Jira.
  • Strong working knowledge of security best practices.
  • Ability to oversee work processes and provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and/or direction.
  • Ability to develop and implement technology projects.
  • Ability to effectively manage outside vendors.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with outside vendors and internal clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to travel 5% of the time.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required, to support system deployment, maintenance and management during non-business and reduced Member-impact hours.
  • Ability to work on call, as needed.
The ideal candidate has a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in computer science or closely related field, with a minimum of five years' experience as an Infrastructure Engineer, Network Engineer or in Programming role and a minimum of four years' experience as a DevOps Engineer.
 
Compensation: Base starting range: $115,037 to $151,561 annually commensurate with experience.
Our base salary starting range is based on scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity. We offer a competitive total rewards package including a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits.
