This unique opportunity is ideal for recent graduates or veterinarians looking to launch a rewarding career in emergency medicine. Unlike a traditional rotating internship, this program is specifically designed to provide hands-on clinical experience, individualized mentorship, and professional growth opportunities. Over the course of this immersive year-long program, interns develop the skills and confidence needed to become competent, independent, and productive emergency veterinarians. Program Description • Duration: 13 months • Objective: To develop well-rounded, confident emergency veterinarians through comprehensive clinical exposure and mentorship. • Shift Structure: The schedule is divided evenly among four shift type, daytime ER, overnight ER, hospitalist, and specialty block. • Hours: Three consecutive 12-hour shifts per week, with an additional surgery day during hospitalist and daytime ER rotations (average 42 hours/week). • Active participation in ER departmental meetings, Fellow Rounds, lectures, journal clubs, and Morbidity & Mortality rounds • Mentorship: One-on-one mentorship on every case, with interns maintaining primary case responsibility. • Species Exposure: Interns manage canine, feline, and exotic emergency cases. Educational Components: • Weekly intern rounds covering core ER topics • Intern-led annual case discussions • Specialty blocks providing hands-on exposure to internal medicine, surgery, radiology, neurology, and other areas of interest Responsibilities • Manage multiple hospitalized and incoming emergency cases under supervision • Perform spays, neuters, and basic soft tissue surgeries under guided mentorship • Participate in patient care rounds and case discussions • Collaborate with experienced ER veterinarians, specialists, and support staff • Attend hospital-provided continuing education sessions and training workshops • Maintain accurate medical records and contribute to high-quality patient care Skills & Qualifications • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) • Active New Jersey veterinary license or eligibility for licensure • Active DEA license or DEA licensure eligible • Highly motivated with a professional and positive demeanor • Strong communication and teamwork skills • Passion for emergency medicine and commitment to continuous learning • Dedication to exceptional client service and compassionate patient care Support & Training Provided • One-on-one instruction and oversight on all cases and surgeries • 6-week Specialty Block for advanced specialty exposure • Weekly clinical rounds, didactic lectures, and skills workshops • Mentorship from experienced emergency clinicians and board-certified specialists Why Choose Mount Laurel Animal Hospital? • Supportive Culture: Join a team that truly values compassion, collaboration, and community.
