Job description

Who We Are:
Any Baby Can is an Austin-based nonprofit that has provided critical services to families in Central Texas for more than 47 years. With a variety of programs that meet families where they are - at home, work or school - Any Baby Can helps kids meet milestones, parents achieve stability, and families improve health and well-being.
At Any Baby Can, we recognize that our staff are our most valuable resource and the key to our success. We're proud to be recognized as one of the Best Places for Working Parents in Austin for five consecutive years, as well as earning designations such as a Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite and one of the Mayor's Healthiest Workplaces.
Position Summary:
Any Baby Can is looking for an intern to further our mission to create a community that champions child development and supports families in need. Our Development Internship will help prepare future philanthropic leaders for a competitive and fulfilling career. Interns will work with our development team to gain hands-on experience in donor stewardship, research, grant writing, and event management. This part-time unpaid internship offers technical insight into non-profit fundraising and transferable skills in nonprofit administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Chief Development Officer, the intern will work with Development team members and may engage in the following projects:
  • Fundraising campaigns and event support, including assisting with soliciting, receiving, and occasionally picking up donated auction items, in-kind gifts, and event materials from community partners
  • Donor stewardship and database management, including drafting emails, thank you letters, and in-kind tracking
  • Prospect research, including corporate donor research and engagement strategies
  • Grant writing research and drafting community grants
  • Volunteer coordination and project support
  • Office support including organization of marketing collateral, event materials
  • Additional duties depending on department needs and intern's interests

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or graduate student, enrolled in courses during the internship period majoring in Communication, Sociology, Social Work, or relevant field
  • Interest in development and non-profit fundraising
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Commitment to team-oriented philosophy, and an ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Office products
  • Adherence to principles of ethical fundraising
  • Must be based in the Austin area with reliable transportation to travel to Any Baby Can of Austin's Main Office and Event Venue(s); some work may be completed remotely

Special Considerations:
  • Fall Semester 2026 (Approximately 13 weeks, accounting for university breaks).
  • Flexible/Hybrid. Coordination with class schedule to ensure consistent availability during scheduled working hours.
  • This position requires periodic availability outside normal working hours for events and activities
  • Minimum 16 hours per week.
  • Intern (s) must have reliable transportation to travel within the assigned region; if driving own vehicle, must have valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance

Intern Benefits:
This internship will allow students to bring their classroom knowledge or work experience into a professional work setting and broaden their knowledge through hands-on application in a non-profit environment.
  • Gain practical experience in fundraising, donor stewardship, sponsorships, and special events
  • Assist with planning and executing community and fundraising events
  • Build professional skills in project management, relationship building, written communication, data management, and event logistics
  • Learn how nonprofit development strategies drive mission impact and organizational sustainability
  • Collaborate with staff across departments and build connections with community leaders, corporate partners, volunteers, and donors
  • Strengthen your resume with real-world experience, measurable accomplishments, and professional references
  • With professor approval, school credit for projects tailored to class requirements
