Job description

Summer Program: June 7- August 6, 2027
Launch your professional future in Washington, D.C. through a supportive, structured internship experience designed for motivated neurodivergent young people.
The BroadFutures DC Internship Program combines paid internships with individualized coaching, professional training, and ongoing mentorship to help interns build confidence, workplace skills, and independence. Interns participate in a cohort-based experience that includes pre-program training, weekly professional development, and personalized support throughout the internship.
Our internships are intentionally matched based on each intern's strengths, interests, and goals, with opportunities available across a wide range of sectors, including nonprofit organizations, hospitality, marketing and communications, policy, administration, technology, and more. All accepted participants are guaranteed an internship placement.
The program is designed for neurodivergent young adults ages 18-26 who are college-capable, motivated to grow professionally, and ready to gain meaningful real-world experience in a supportive environment. Internships take place in person throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Program Structure: The first week is comprehensive professional training. For the remainder of the program, participants are at their internship site Monday-Thursday (20 hours total) and in professional training with the intern cohort every Friday.

Comprehensive support: Interns and employers receive both group and one-on-one support throughout the program.
Equal pay: Stipends equal to at least D.C. minimum wage.
Experience-based: Transitional work experiences, not intended to lead to full-time employment.

Primary Requirements
  • You are between the ages of 18 and 26.
  • You identify as neurodivergent.
  • You possess a high school diploma or GED by the start of our program.
  • You are college-capable (even if you may not yet be college-ready).
  • You are able to be present for the entire program (June 7-August 6, 2027)
Independence
  • You are able to work a 20-hour work week independently and without the assistance of a job coach.
  • You are able to transport yourself to and from BroadFutures training, program events, and internship sites.
  • If you are coming from out of state, you are able to live independently.
Internships are available in the following areas:
  • hospitality and customer service
  • general administration
  • communications/marketing
  • technology/data analysis
  • research/policy
Placements are carefully made, aligning interns' skills, interests, and experiences with employers' needs. Internships are designed for learning and growth, and every opportunity provides valuable experience. It does not have to be your dream job, just a step toward it.
The Summer Program costs $6,325 before considering internship stipends, need-based scholarships, and, in some cases, a housing stipend. All internships are paid, and interns make ~$2,500 over the course of the program.
We are committed to making our programs accessible to all qualified applicants, regardless of financial circumstances. Need-based scholarships and housing stipends are available and can lower, and in some cases eliminate, expenses.
If affordability is a concern, please contact info@broadfutures.org directly to discuss options.
