The Ideal Candidate

The Data Scientist III within the Fair and Responsible Banking 2LOD Complaints Team at TD will help to build the next generation of complaint intelligence and reporting capabilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong data science, analytics, visualization, and leading technology skills with a practical understanding of compliance, risk, and data governance. This role will be at the forefront of transforming complex customer complaint data into actionable insights that support US Compliance stakeholders, senior management, and multiple committees across TD. The successful candidate will be comfortable interfacing with a myriad of complaint data stakeholders, translating business needs into scalable complaint data products, tools, and reports, as well as embracing AI enabled capabilities, including Machine Learning, NLP, and LLMs while fostering clear human in the loop controls, transparency, and governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop modern complaint intelligence capabilities that transform complaint data into meaningful, action insights to inform compliance, risk mitigation, and identify potential customer harm.

  • Develop and maintain a robust inventory of complaint dashboards, reporting, and analytics products using software tools such as Power BI, Python, SQL, R, Excel, and PowerPoint to deliver decision ready information to TD partners.

  • Apply advanced analytics, machine learning, NLP, and LLM capabilities to identify complaint trends, emerging risks, themes, root causes, and customer impact to inform compliance strategies.

  • Launch new complaint data products and analytical tools from requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance.

  • Provide effective oversight of 1LOD complaint data handling including complaint taxonomy, data methodology, data quality, data completeness, data lineage, controls, and data interpretation.

  • Translate complex analytical findings from complaint data into compelling business narratives, tailoring insights, visualizations, dashboards, and presentations to different audiences.

  • Ensure responsible AI and human in the loop approaches consistent with TD policies, procedures, and governance requirements.

The Data Scientist III provides technical leadership across the overall Analytics function which may have an enterprise mandate. This role generally provides deep technical knowledge and expertise in client interactions to explain complex data analysis related material.

Depth & Scope:

Education & Experience:

  • Advanced technical and analytical expertise including Python, R, SQL, machine learning, statistical analysis, NLP, and working with large and complex datasets.

  • Strong business intelligence and data visualization skills with practical experience using Power BI and or Tableau, Excel, and PowerPoint skills to develop executive level dashboards and data summaries.

  • Proven experience applying AI and advanced analytics to unstructured data, including NLP, LLMs, Generative AI, text classification, theme classification, and incorporating best practices for human in the loop accountability.

  • Strong compliance, data governance, data quality, and stakeholder management capabilities.

Customer Accountabilities:

  • Works closely with business owners to identify opportunities and serves as an ambassador for data science

  • Is familiar with the business context and data infrastructure and can translate business problems to viable data science solutions

  • Uses a wide range of programing languages (e.g. Python) and techniques for extracting and preparing data, applying statistics and various advanced analytics, along with business acumen to extract insights from the big data

  • Visualizes insights from the data to tell and illustrate stories that clearly convey the meaning of results to decision-makers and stakeholders at every level of technical understanding

  • Collaborates with other partners, such as data and business analysts, software engineers, data engineers, and application developers to develop scalable and sustainable data science solutions that retains long term benefit to the business
