Position Title: Â TESOL Teacher K-12
Reports to: Â Building Principal and Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Performance
Bargaining Unit: Â Bloomfield Education Association (Teachers)
Work Year: Â 186 Days
Position Summary: Â The districtwide TESOL Teacher K-12 supports the English language development and academic success of Multilingual Learners (MLs) across Bloomfield Public Schools. The TESOL Teacher provides standards-based English language development instruction; coordinates identification, assessment, progress monitoring, and required documentation; supports compliance with state and federal requirements; contributes to program development and evaluation; and coordinates the district Seal of Biliteracy assessment process. The TESOL Teacher collaborates with educators, administrators, families, and student support staff to ensure equitable access to grade-level learning.
Performance Responsibilities: Â This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities associated with this role. Bloomfield Public Schools reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities to meet educational and organizational goals.
I. English Language Development Instruction
*Plans and delivers English language development instruction aligned with the Connecticut English Language Development Standards Framework, Connecticut academic standards, district curriculum, and student needs.
*Provides services through push-in, pull-out, co-teaching, small-group instruction, and other appropriate service-delivery models.
*Differentiates instruction based on students' language proficiency levels, academic needs, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and individualized learning needs.
*Uses evidence-based second-language acquisition practices, linguistic scaffolds, and appropriate materials to support listening, speaking, reading, writing, and access to grade-level content.
II. Identification, Assessment, and Progress Monitoring
*Reviews Home Language Surveys and coordinates identification and screening procedures for students who may qualify for multilingual learner services.
*Administers the LAS Links assessment in accordance with state and district requirements.
*Analyzes language proficiency, academic achievement, and classroom performance data to plan instruction, determine supports, and monitor student growth.
*Monitors the progress of currently identified and exited multilingual learners and communicates results and recommendations to appropriate staff and families.
*Coordinates the district Seal of Biliteracy assessment process, including identifying potentially eligible students, communicating requirements and timelines, scheduling approved assessments, administering and scoring assessments as applicable, and maintaining participation and results records.
III. Compliance, Documentation, and Program Development
*Completes required family notifications and develops, maintains, and monitors district documentation within established timelines.
*Maintains accurate student records required for instructional planning, entry, service, monitoring, exit, post-exit monitoring, district reporting, and state and federal compliance.
*Provides Seal of Biliteracy results and documentation for student records, transcripts, district reporting, and recognition.
*Contributes to the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of district multilingual learner services and recommends improvements based on student data, program outcomes, research, and current guidance.
*Maintains current knowledge of Connecticut and federal multilingual learner requirements and supports district compliance efforts.
IV. Collaboration and Family Engagement
*Collaborates with classroom teachers to plan supports that provide multilingual learners equitable access to grade-level curriculum and classroom participation.
*Collaborates with administrators, special education staff, counselors, interventionists, and other specialists to address students' academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs.
*Shares targeted instructional strategies, materials, student data, and recommendations with colleagues and provides limited modeling or professional learning as appropriate to the assignment.
*Communicates with families regarding identification, services, assessments, language development, academic progress, program transitions, and educational opportunities, working with designated staff to ensure accessible communication.
V. Professional Responsibilities
*Organizes districtwide schedules and service-delivery plans in collaboration with principals and the Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Performance.
*Maintains confidentiality, professional ethics, accurate records, and timely completion of required responsibilities.
*Participates in professional learning, curriculum and program development, committees, and district initiatives appropriate to the assignment.
*Travels among district schools and performs other responsibilities deemed appropriate by the Building Principal and/or Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Performance.
Required Certification:
Valid Connecticut educator certificate with Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) endorsement (#111).
Other Specialized Qualifications/Competencies or Credentials:
Experience working with multilingual learners in a K-12 educational setting preferred.
Knowledge of second-language acquisition, the Connecticut English Language Development Standards Framework, LAS Links administration, and Connecticut multilingual learner requirements.
Knowledge of Connecticut Seal of Biliteracy requirements and assessment processes preferred.
Ability to use assessment and student data to guide instruction, monitor progress, and evaluate program effectiveness.
Strong understanding of culturally and linguistically responsive practices and effective collaboration with educators, students, and families.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, written, and technology skills, with the ability to manage a districtwide assignment and meet established timelines.
Demonstrates professionalism, confidentiality, sound judgment, and commitment to continuous professional learning.
