Description
Fort Mill Police Department is a progressive, professional full-service law enforcement agency committed to becoming “More Than a Job.” We stand on a foundation of courage, honor, and integrity, and partner with our citizens to make Fort Mill, SC one of the safest towns in South Carolina.
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Police Officer located in Fort Mill, SC. As a Police Officer with FMPD, you will be entrusted with the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol Fort Mill to detect, deter, and respond to crime and traffic violations.
  • Answer calls for service, including but not limited to: domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, lost or missing persons, traffic collisions, motorist assists.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations: interviewing witnesses, victims, suspects; collecting information and evidence; securing scenes.
  • Apprehend, arrest, and process offenders; execute warrants and subpoenas.
  • Support fellow officers and emergency response personnel as needed.
  • Provide traffic control and direction; assist motorists.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports: incident, accident, arrest, etc.
  • Maintain patrol vehicle, uniform, and equipment to department standards.
  • Testify in court when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of FMPD’s mission.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
What we Expect from You (Qualifications)
  • Minimum: high school diploma or equivalent; specialized law enforcement training is preferred.
  • Experience: approximately 1-2 years of relevant field work, internship/apprenticeship, or equivalent combination of education/training.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain any required local/state certifications.
  • Must meet the current requirements of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
  • Excellent communicator; strong problem-solving skills; resilient and composed under pressure.

Physical and Work Requirements
  • Work involves both indoor & outdoor duties, exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Physical tasks include walking, running, bending, lifting (light to heavy), restraining persons when necessary.
  • Use of a variety of law enforcement tools and equipment.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious materials, life-threatening situations.
