Antelope Valley Boys & Girls Club Volunteer & Internship Opportunities:
MISSION STATEMENT:

To be the premiere youth agency of the Antelope Valley. To reach ALL youth and teens in the community and provide the programs they need to improve their quality of life.
CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
-Helping youth become responsible and caring citizens
-Keystone Club
Keystoning is the Boys & Girls Club Movement's ultimate teen program. This unique leadership development experience provides opportunities for young people ages 14 to 18. Youth participate, both in and out of the Club, in three focus areas: academic success, career readiness and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystone Clubs aim to have a positive impact on members, the Club and the Community.
-Family Plus
The Family PLUS initiative enables Clubs to partner with families and collaborate with other community agencies to ensure the positive development of youth through programming, resources and support. Through Family PLUS we have been able to send families on fun experiences together such as the Blue Angels Air Show, Mulligan Family Fun Center, Disneyland and more. We have also been able to educate families about healthcare services, including vision and dental, through community clinics and outreach programs. We also have partnered with community agencies to provide those families most in need with emergency food service on weekends, holiday meals and holiday gifts, winter clothing and hygiene products.
ARTS & CULTURAL EDUCATION
-Helping local youth develop their creativity and expand their cultural awareness
-Image Makers
This year-round program encourages Club members ages 6 to 18 to learn and practice black-and-white, color, digital and alternative process photography.
-Music Makers
MusicMakers, a music education program, was developed in collaboration with BGCA, along with NAMM, The International Music Productions Association. Current and past music education programs include Piano, Drums, and Guitar.
-Drama Matters
DramaMatters is a drama education program for Clubs that encourages members ages 6 to 18 to engage in hands-on activities. Drama education builds self-confidence, sparks creativity and boosts academic achievement.
EDUCATION & CAREER DEVELOPMENT
-Providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement
-BE GREAT: Graduate
This program is designed to enhance each Club member's engagement with learning by providing consistent support from caring and trusted adults in developing the academic, emotional and social skills needed to achieve academic success and advance to their next grade level with the ultimate goal of graduation. This program is proudly sponsored by Antelope Valley Ford and Southern California Edison.
-Power Hour
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count provides Club professionals with the strategies, activities, resources and information to create an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages Club members at every age to become self-directed learners.
-Money Matters
Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13 to 18. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, create a budget, save and invest, start small businesses and pay for college.
SPORTS, FITNESS & RECREATION
-Helping our local children increase their overall fitness and health
-Triple Play
Triple Play, a comprehensive health and wellness program, strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-18 by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.
HEALTH & LIFE SKILLS
-Engage children to develop behaviors that nurture their own well-being
-Smart Girls
An outgrowth of the popular and effective SMART Moves program, SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education, and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 8 to 17.
-Passport to Manhood
Passport to Manhood consists of 14 sessions, each concentrating on a specific aspect of character and manhood through highly interactive activities. Each Club participant receives his own "passport" to underscore the notion that he is on a personal journey of maturation and growth. The program includes a service project where boys learn the importance of giving back to the community. Passport to Manhood represents a targeted effort to engage young boys in discussions and activities that reinforce character, leadership, and positive behavior.
-Healthy Habits
Designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Must pass drug test • Must pass pre-screen test • Must clear a background check • Must have reliable transportation
SAFETY:
Once approved, all volunteers must review and agree to follow all AVBGC Safety Policies and Code of Ethics Prior to placement. Safety information will be reviewed with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Club volunteers are responsible for purchasing a Club shirt ($10) and background check fee ($20).
