Join our team and what we'll accomplish together

As the Health Data Office team within TELUS Health our mission is to responsibly leverage health data for innovation, unlocking vast potential with AI, data enablement, and interoperability. Our focus: delivering high-value health analytics, advancing the forefront of health technology for a healthier world.

TELUS Health is seeking a senior technical leader to join our Data Engineering organization as a Senior Architect, responsible for the end-to-end architecture of large-scale, data-centric platforms where data pipelines, complex workflows, and streaming systems are the core product. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse, highly skilled team of Data Engineers, Full Stack Developers, DBAs, Cloud Engineers, AI/ML Engineers, and healthcare professionals to design and evolve real-time and batch data platforms operating across AWS and Google Cloud Platform environments, with primary depth in GCP. We are looking for an architect with a proven track record of designing production-grade, data-intensive systems that integrate scalable data pipelines, APIs, and data-centric microservices into cohesive, reliable, and compliant platforms built for long-term evolution.

What you will do
  • Lead enterprise-level architecture for TELUS Health data platforms, spanning ingestion, streaming, transformation, storage, APIs, and consumption
  • Architect complex data workflows and high-volume streaming pipelines, leveraging platforms such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, Apache Flink, Dataflow, PySpark and BigQuery
  • Define architectural patterns for event-driven, stateful, and hybrid batch/stream systems
  • Establish standards for data modeling, schema management, versioning, and interoperability (including FHIR R4)
  • Design data-centric microservices and APIs, with strong data contracts and lifecycle management
  • Drive multi-cloud, cloud-native data architecture across GCP and AWS (GCP emphasis)
  • Embed data governance, privacy, compliance, and reliability into platform design
  • Act as a senior technical authority, mentoring engineers and influencing architectural direction across teams
  • Orchestrate cross-functional projects involving healthcare IT professionals, data scientists, and clinical experts
What you bring
  • Degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field
  • 10+ years designing and delivering large-scale, data-intensive platforms
  • Deep expertise in data architecture, including streaming pipelines, complex transformations, and distributed processing
  • Proven ability to design end-to-end systems integrating data pipelines, storage, APIs, and services
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architectures and data-centric microservices
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native data platforms, including services such as Pub/Sub, Dataflow, BigQuery, Kafka, Flink,  PySpark and BigQuery
  • Experience designing systems where data scale, correctness, latency, and reliability are critical
  • Modern development practices and experience with AI-assisted coding and productivity tools
  • Strong grasp of data governance, security, and privacy in regulated environments

Nice to have

  • Healthcare or clinical data experience
  • Real-time analytics or AI/ML-enabled data platforms
  • GCP or AWS Professional Certifications
  • Advanced degree  or PHD in computer science, engineering, or related field
