Job description

Title: Computer Science/IT Co-op Fall 2026 
Company: Tampa Electric Company 
State and City: Florida - Tampa
Shift: Mon – Fri, 20-40 hours, varies on location and/or role

Position Summary/Details: 

 This internship supports the Procurement team in developing an AI-enabled contractor selection, cost estimation, and knowledge capture framework for energy-related general contracting services. The role will transform contractor price books, performance attributes, and project scope inputs into intelligent agents that estimate costs, rank contractors, and capture institutional knowledge

Key Responsibilities and/or Learning Objectives 

  • Design and develop AI agents capable of:
    • Estimating costs based on unit rates and scope inputs
    • Ranking contractors based on pricing and qualitative attributes
  • Validate outputs with Procurement, Engineering, and field teams
  • Document frameworks, models, and recommendations for scalability

Physical Location of Co-op:

  • Virtual
  • 3600 Midtown Dr. Tampa, FL 33607

Working Conditions 

  • Virtual with occasional in-office meetings

Preferred Availability: 

  • Part – Time (20-30 hours) 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:    

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline for the first semester the student joins the program. 

Co-Op Requirements: 

To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
