Description:

Packaging Structural Designer

J.S. McCarthy Packaging + Print is looking for a detail-oriented and creative Packaging Structural Designer to join our team. This position plays an important role in developing structural packaging solutions that are functional, production-ready, and designed to meet our customers’ needs.

What You’ll Do

As a Packaging Structural Designer, you’ll work closely with our Sales, Customer Service, and Production teams to turn customer concepts into packaging that can meet customers’ expectations and that allows for successful production on our equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Create and modify structural packaging designs using ArtiosCAD.
  • Develop CAD layouts, dielines, prototypes (using a CAD plotter), and production-ready files, while working with customers and production on technical requirements, taking into consideration customer feedback.
  • Troubleshoot structural design and production concerns from both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments to move projects from concept through production.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve packaging design, efficiency, and material utilization.
  • Follow established standard operating procedures while offering opportunities and suggestions for continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proficiency in Esko ArtiosCAD is required. Knowledge of Adobe Illustator, Pandora and Kodak Workshop is helpful.
  • Experience with packaging CAD, structural packaging design, or a related field.
  • Understanding of folding carton construction, dielines, and manufacturing processes
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departments and with clients
  • Prepress Mac Operator skills such as preparing, reviewing and fixing client files for print production are a plus.
  • A degree in Structural Design, Package Engineering, CAD/Drafting Technology, Industrial Design or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience in a packaging, converting, printing, or manufacturing environment is a plus

Why Join J.S. McCarthy?

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) – become an owner and share in the company's success
  • Competitive pay ($20-$35/hour depending on experience)
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Company-paid short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • Employee wellness and financial education programs
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
  • A collaborative, team-focused work environment

At J.S. McCarthy, we offer the stability of an established Maine manufacturer with continued investment in our people, technology, and future. You'll have the opportunity to design it, see it produced, and know that your work makes a direct impact.
