What You Will Do

As a PhD intern or co-op student, you'll contribute to meaningful work—gaining hands-on technical and research experience. You'll work within one of our operations or research facilities, contributing to projects and research that drive real results. Your assignments could include advanced research initiatives, process engineering, product development, modeling and optimization, and more—depending on your placement and business needs.

Beyond your project work, you'll have the chance to tour facilities, learn from senior leaders, and connect with experienced professionals across the organization. We also host social events that give you the chance to build relationships with your cohort, recent graduates, and leaders across ExxonMobil.

Our goal is for every intern to leave ExxonMobil feeling valued, having gained meaningful experiences, professional growth, and lasting skills that support future success.

 
Program Details:
•    Summer internships: ~3 months
•    Fall/Spring co-ops: ~4 - 5 months

High-performing interns are prioritized for return internships and, upon graduation, full-time roles in our Early Career Foundation program.


Work Locations

As a PhD intern or co-op student, you'll be placed at one of our facilities in the Houston area or at select U.S. locations.

Assignments may include, but are not limited to the following locations:

• Baton Rouge, Louisiana
• Baytown, Texas
• Beaumont, Texas
• Houston Area (Spring), Texas (Corporate Headquarters)
• Joliet, Illinois
• Mont Belvieu, Texas

Compensation

Individual pay will be determined based on various factors including degree/education, discipline, skills, abilities, qualifications, and work experience.

Illinois Equal Pay Act

Pursuant to the Illinois Equal Pay Act, for Illinois employment, the expected annual salary range for this position is $90,000 – $145,000 base salary ($/year).
