Job description

The Center for Health and Wellness is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counselor to join our inclusive, collaborative, and integrated team. This position plays a vital role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our student community through short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and proactive outreach initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a commitment to holistic, student-centered care and a desire to build meaningful connections that foster resilience, reduce stigma, and promote help-seeking across campus.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $67,120 - $78,522 per year. This role is based onsite in Middlebury, VT.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Provides psychological counseling and crisis intervention for students
  • Implements appropriate assessments and clinical interventions
  • Facilitates group workshops, therapy, and series as assigned to contribute to meet outreach goals
  • Builds relationships with campus community to reduce stigma and increase help/service seeking
  • Completes timely documentation in the EHR according to best practices and Counseling policies
  • Facilitates skills and process trainings for students and employees as assigned
  • Consults with Director, Counseling staff, and other Center for Health and Wellness colleagues around risk management, referrals, confidentiality, and crisis management support
  • Participates in Counselor on-call rotation

Requirements
  • Clinical experience in assessment, treatment planning, shared decision-making, and crisis response
  • Commitment to multicultural approaches to clinical care
  • Commitment to addressing intersections of multiple identities and their related health outcomes
  • Commitment to collaboration with clinical and administrative staff to support student success
  • Knowledge of the social, psychological, and physical developmental stages of students 2 years of experience (graduate placements/internships may count toward this prerequisite)
  • Master's degree required in counseling, psychology, social work, or related clinical field with current, or eligible to obtain within 6 months, Vermont licensure.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity tools. Regularly moves about inside the office and requires regular cross-campus and cross-town travel. Schedule flexibility is required including occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to attend events and facilitate programming according to the academic calendar.
