Your New Role...
CNN is looking for the next generation of a campaign embed. You are a reporter who lives and breathes both the mechanics of American politics and the rhythms of the internet. You are endlessly curious about the mood of the country and the people competing to lead it. You know what travels, what resonates and why. You bring that instinct to every story you touch. You understand that the best political journalism right now requires you to be present on the trail and native to the internet.
You have a big personality and high energy, but your journalism is precise. You are rigorous in your reporting, fiercely independent and can gain the trust of the people you cover, even when you're holding them accountable. You've made something on your phone that made people stop scrolling. You don't need a producer to find the story because you are already doing that. You just need a platform to tell it.
Your Role Accountabilities...
  • Report from the campaign trail, gathering and verifying information for digital, video, and social content
  • Identify and pitch story ideas, contributing to daily and breaking news coverage
  • Shoot, edit, and publish short-form video using mobile tools in the field
  • Deliver clear, accurate on-camera updates, including live or recorded segments
  • Monitor social platforms and audience trends to inform story development
  • Collaborate with editors and producers to shape content across platforms
  • Support fast-paced coverage by responding quickly to breaking news and evolving stories

Qualifications & Experience...
  • At least 3-5 years production experience in the news television industry or digital video journalism
  • Some experience covering politics, campaigns or government strongly preferred
  • High interest in political news
  • Demonstrated track record of breaking news and developing strong story ideas independently
  • Proven ability to shoot, edit and publish short-form video from a mobile device in the field
  • Experience with on-camera reporting; comfort live streaming in breaking news or evolving news situation
  • Strong, clear writing that works across formats
  • Deep familiarity with digital platforms and how political content performs and travels online
  • Excellent time management and logistics management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment with minimal supervision
  • Must hold and maintain a valid and active Driver's License.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and sustain a demanding embed schedule in a 24/7 news environment

This is a project based role that runs through January 2029.
How We Get Things Done...
