Job description

Job Title: MachinistJob Description

This role is for an experienced CNC machinist responsible for full-cycle machining of tight-tolerance prototype parts. You will perform set ups, tool changes, program loading and edits, and ensure parts meet stringent quality requirements in a highly collaborative, aerospace-focused machine shop.

Responsibilities
  • Perform full-cycle CNC machining of prototype parts to tight tolerances, from set up through finished component.
  • Set up CNC mills and lathes, including fixturing, work holding, and tooling selection for each job.
  • Execute tool changes efficiently and safely to maintain productivity and part quality.
  • Load CNC programs at the machine and make G&M code edits as needed to meet specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, including program faults and tooling problems, and adjust processes to resolve them.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining operations and critical dimensions.
  • Use gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure quality standards.
  • Operate and navigate Haas CNC mill controls, including 3-4 axis vertical and horizontal machining centers.
  • Perform in-process inspections and make necessary adjustments to maintain tight prototype tolerances.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete jobs on time, supporting any tasks needed in the shop regardless of tenure or title.
  • Assist with assembly and fixture setup to support efficient machining operations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance machining processes and tooling strategies.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5+ years of CNC mill machining experience.
  • Proven ability to navigate and operate Haas CNC controls on mill platforms.
  • Direct hands-on experience machining and setting up jobs on Haas milling machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to upload programs at the machine and perform G&M code edits.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify program faults and adjust tooling and parameters to meet specifications.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments such as gauges, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Experience with 3-4 axis CNC milling and vertical and horizontal machining centers.
  • Capability to work with tight prototype tolerances and maintain high quality standards.
  • Comfort working with assembly, fixtures, manual mill, and lathe operations as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace machining environments.
  • Mastercam programming and editing experience.
  • Prototype machining knowledge and prior work with prototype components.
  • Familiarity with internal tool tracking systems in a production or prototype shop.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented machine shop and support a wide range of tasks.
Why Work Here?

You will join a growing aerospace machining operation that offers a long-term direct placement opportunity and a clear path to career growth. The shop combines a small, close-knit feel with the advantages of a business that is expanding and investing in new capabilities. You can expect competitive compensation, a supportive team culture where everyone works together to meet goals, and the chance to develop advanced skills in prototype aerospace machining as the organization continues to grow.

Work Environment

The role is based in a newly remodeled, air-conditioned, and well-lit machining facility. The shop is organized and uses an internal tool tracking system to keep operations efficient. The environment is highly team-oriented, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and shared responsibility for meeting deadlines. The facility focuses on prototype aerospace machining and has recently moved into a larger building, creating opportunities to add more machinery and expand capabilities.
