This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC lathes and mills in a machine shop environment to produce precision parts for the aerospace industry. You will convert raw materials into semi-finished goods within strict print tolerance specifications, ensure parts meet engineering requirements, and support production through accurate machining, measurement, and collaboration with the team.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC lathe machines as the primary responsibility, providing backup operations on CNC mills and other manual equipment as needed.
  • Run machines on a wide variety of operations involving multiple machines that convert raw materials into precision semi-finished goods within print tolerance specifications.
  • Make offset adjustments on CNC equipment to maintain engineering specifications and meet or exceed required output hours.
  • Operate single turret and twin spindle CNC lathe machines with live tooling capabilities to complete complex machining operations.
  • Maintain proper cutting conditions on machining centers to ensure consistent quality and optimal tool life.
  • Maintain the proper condition of measuring instruments and fixed gauge equipment to support accurate inspection and quality control.
  • Perform dimensional checks using fixtures, gauges, micrometers, calipers, and electronic height gauges to verify product specifications and print tolerances.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and understand basic work instructions to guide product fabrication and machining processes.
  • Use general hand and power tools, including rotary tooling, sanding devices, manual deburring tools, and wrenches, to support machining and finishing tasks.
  • Enter production data and time information accurately using basic PC skills for data entry, timecards, and production time entries.
  • Communicate clearly with co-workers and supervisors to coordinate activities, share status updates, and support various production processes.
  • Work effectively as a team-oriented individual, collaborating with others in the machine shop environment.
  • Perform other duties as required to support production needs and be available for overtime as necessary.
  • Obtain Certified Operator certification through on-the-job training and testing as part of professional development in the role.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC lathes, with the ability to provide backup operations on CNC mills and other manual equipment.
  • Ability to operate single turret and twin spindle CNC lathe machines with live tooling capabilities.
  • Proficiency in converting raw materials into precision semi-finished goods within print tolerance specifications using multiple machines.
  • Demonstrated capability to make offset adjustments on CNC equipment to maintain engineering specifications and production efficiency.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and follow basic work instructions for product fabrication.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and fixed gauge equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and electronic height gauges.
  • Intermediate knowledge of shop math to support accurate machining, measurement, and problem-solving on the shop floor.
  • General knowledge and skills in using hand and power tools, including rotary tooling, sanding devices, manual deburring tools, and wrenches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors in a team-oriented environment.
  • Basic PC skills for accurate data entry, timecard completion, and recording production time entries.
  • Ability to maintain proper cutting conditions and the condition of measuring instruments on machining centers.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain Certified Operator certification through on-the-job training and testing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a machine shop environment, preferably supporting production for aerospace or other precision industries.
  • Comfort working with multiple CNC machines and manual equipment in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
  • Adaptability to perform a variety of machining and support tasks as production needs change.
  • Reliability and flexibility to support overtime as necessary to meet production schedules.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a focus on collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement.
