Job description

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This position is located at our Brook Park Ohio facility. 


FUNCTION OF POSITION

Apply creative and analytical engineering ability and knowledge of Electrical Engineering design principles and techniques to execute design and support efforts ranging from very simple to complex. Provide technical input, problem definition, concept development, engineering analysis, and functional performance requirements definition.  Use a self-sufficient and hands-on approach to advance designs from concept to successfully functioning hardware.  Interface with all levels of customer organizations during requirement definition, design reviews, and within technical working groups.

  1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  2. Design, analyze, develop, prototype, refine, integrate, test and deliver a very wide variety of specialized electronic circuits, integrated systems and related support equipment applicable to the Aerospace and related industries.
  1. Contribute to new product and service development efforts from an Electrical Engineering perspective. Identify and advocate for new product and service opportunities, establish business cases for these opportunities (including technical feasibility analysis, market analysis, cost model development, risk analysis, etc.).  Contribute to planning, estimation and resource planning for new development efforts.  Make significant technical contributions to new development efforts from an electrical engineering perspective.
  1. Support business development activities associated with new and existing products, services and contracts. Responsibilities include proposal planning and development, development and documentation of proposed technical solutions, and cost and schedule development.  In addition to technical proficiency, excellent oral and written technical communications skills are required.  Approximately 5% travel within the continental US will be required.
  1. Use SLI Systems Engineering process in support of project management and technical execution. Identify opportunities to refine and tailor this process and implement changes to this process upon authorization.
  1. Provide occasional technical direction and support to Junior Electrical Engineers, Electronics Technicians, Instrumentation and Controls Technicians, and Electricians in the installation, checkout, calibration, troubleshooting and operation of a wide variety of related components and systems.  
  1. Create and revise electrical schematics, drawings, calibration records, technical procedures, and quality control documentation associated with AS9100 and ISO-9001 processes.
  1. Prepare purchase requisitions, hardware/software specifications for electronic/electrical equipment, and Sole-Source justifications when appropriate. Evaluate vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations for procurement.
  1. Support large and small scale test operations including operations of control and instrumentation systems.
  1. Develop and present materials for design reviews, safety reviews, and other technical presentations.
  1. SUPERVISOR GUIDANCE

Is technically responsible for meeting project requirements. Must be capable of working with minimal supervision at times.  Successful performance in this role will lead to an increasing level of independence.

  1. SUPERVISION OF OTHERS

Does not normally provide direct supervision of other personnel unless assigned as a lead project engineer or task manager.  May provide technical direction to junior engineers and technicians assigned to projects.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. The successful applicant will possess a BS or higher degree (granted by an ABET-accredited university) in Electrical Engineering or a sufficiently-relevant Engineering discipline and have eight (8) or more years of verifiable work experience. Sufficiently relevant co-operative education or internship experience may be credited towards this requirement.
  1. Specialized knowledge and experience within one or more of the following disciplines: Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Power Engineering, High Voltage Engineering, RF Engineering, Electronics Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Systems Engineering.
  1. Demonstrable knowledge of general-purpose software tools such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point is required. Additional knowledge of several field-specific software tools such as SPICE-based circuit modeling tools, Altium Designer, LabVIEW, Eclipse, Thermal Desktop, PTC Creo, MS Project and others is required.  The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience with both industry-standard ECAD and industry-standard MCAD software tools.
  1. Experience in prototype-grade soldering, PCB assembly and other hands-on skills associated with electronics development is required. An understanding of the requirements of typical ESD Control Programs and a willingness and ability to meet those requirements is mandatory.  A demonstration of through-hole soldering ability, SMT soldering ability, and other general electronics lab skills will be required.  The ideal candidate will have current or recent JPL or IPC certifications in one or more of these skills.
  1. Basic understanding of NFPA 70 (National Electric Code) is required. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of electrical system design requirements applicable to the Hazardous Areas found in test facilities.
  1. Space industry experience desired including familiarity with EEE-INST-002 ‘Instructions for EEE Parts Selection, Screening, Qualification, and Derating’, and Worst-Case Analysis (WCA) assessment methods.
  1. Knowledge of microprocessor and/or FPGA/PLD code development, deployment and verification desired as well as related electrical analyses (i.e. FPGA static timing analyses)
  1. Prior experience managing a product team from inception to delivery desired.
  1. US Citizenship required and the ability to qualify (and maintain qualification) for a Secret Clearance is desired.
