Job description

A Sports Intern at News 9 helps drive the Ideal Team Player culture. 

Job Summary: The Sports Intern will assist and observe in the workings of a newsroom at Griffin Media and News 9 in the OKC office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Learn foundational sports producing skills, including writing scripts, researching teams and stats, logging and timing video, assisting with rundown building, and operating studio tools such as prompter and wire services.
  • Develop basic sports reporting skills by assisting with interviews, logging highlights, writing short stories or scripts, and gaining on-camera experience when appropriate.
  • Support digital sports coverage by writing and posting stories, highlights, and recaps to the station’s website and using social media to help share content and gather story ideas.
  • Gain exposure to the full sports operation through hands-on experience and by shadowing sports anchors, reporters, producers, photographers, and digital staff.

Job Schedule: This is an unpaid internship for college credit. We are flexible on schedule, but you must meet your hours required for credits. This internship is available for the Fall semester.

Skills and Requirements:

  • GPA of 2.75 or above
  • Intern must have completed 60 credit hours toward their degree. Copy of official transcript must be uploaded with application. 
  • Intern candidates must be self-motivated and work well with others.
  • Professional dress is expected at all times.
  • Availability for internship up to 16 hours per week.
