Sumter Local Government Consulting is pleased to be assisting the City of Decatur, GA, in conducting a recruitment for their next Building Official. The Building Official serves as a key leader within the City of Decatur, overseeing permitting, plan review, inspections, and code enforcement to support safe, efficient, and high-quality development throughout the community. This role combines technical expertise, strategic leadership, customer service, and operational oversight to ensure compliance with adopted building standards while supporting the City's long-term development goals. This position plays a critical role in balancing regulatory compliance with customer-focused service, helping facilitate responsible growth and redevelopment throughout the city. The Building Official works collaboratively across departments and with community stakeholders to improve operational efficiency, support adaptive reuse and urban development projects, and ensure the City maintains high standards for safety, sustainability, and quality development.

The Ideal Candidate Leads and supports high-performing teams while fostering collaboration across departments and with external stakeholders. Works closely with city officials, developers, contractors, and the public to support development initiatives and maintain strong community relationships. Provides expertise in building code administration, permitting, plan review, inspections, and urban development practices.
