Posting Details
Mark Thomas is hiring an experienced Bridge Design Engineer II for the Structures team! The successful candidate will be part of a team designing simple and complex bridges (primarily of steel and concrete construction) and a variety of transportation related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other miscellaneous structures) using applicable software and design standards. This position is involved in the development of contract plans, the preparation of engineer's estimates and construction specifications, and performing construction support services. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Independently prepares the details of project plans, estimates, calculates quantities, performs structural calculations, and prepares reports, and exhibits
  • Prepares aspects of specifications as assigned and directed
  • Works closely with CAD drafters on the preparation of detailed plans
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the correlation between calculations, plans, specifications, and estimates
  • Demonstrates understanding of design manuals, agency standards, and procedures
  • Mentors and delegates the appropriate design level and technical tasks to entry-level staff, technicians, and interns
  • Attends and actively participates in professional organization activities
  • Provides QC support by following the appropriate procedures as outlined
  • Provides support during construction phase, exhibiting an understanding of construction methodologies, techniques and associated working space
  • Reviews and use designs manuals, applies agency standards and procedures
  • Assists in preparing plans current engineering drafting software (Auto CADD or MicroStation)
  • Prepares calculations using current engineering design software (SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, Xtract, etc...)
  • Prepares detailed design and quantity calculations in a clear and organized manner
  • Conveys technical information utilizing clear verbal and written skills
  • Develops working relationships with outside contacts such as utilities, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants as directed by supervisor
  • Assists in the preparation of proposal packages and exhibits

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering, concentration in structures strongly preferred; MS in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred
  • Meets and exceeds competencies, responsibilities, and results of a Bridge Design Engineer I
  • 2-4+ years of progressive relevant structural engineering experience
  • EIT required, California Professional license (PE) is a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of MS Office, including MS Word and MS Excel
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of Auto CADD or MicroStation
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, XTRACT or similar design programs
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of general engineering principals, statics, dynamics of structures and general engineering design
  • Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of structural design for reinforced concrete, basic knowledge of structural design for steel, timber, and masonry a plus
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time to maximize efficiency
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities

The offered base rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
