Job description

Surgical Registered Nurse
The Surgical RN ensures safe, effective, and patient-centered nursing care throughout the surgical process, from pre-op preparation through post-op recovery, while supporting physicians in a fast-paced dermatologic surgery environment.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Oversee instrument and equipment setup for the OR, utilizing preference cards and anticipating surgeons' needs in real time.
  • Coordinate and oversee the room during a case as circulator, ensuring adherence to sterile technique and safety protocols.
  • Facilitate effective, efficient transitions between procedures to minimize downtime and maintain OR flow.
  • Manage patient care, monitoring, and medication administration throughout the surgical process.
  • Perform pre-op patient assessments, including verifying informed consent, surgical site, and relevant medical history.
  • Provide clear pre and post-operative patient education, including wound care and recovery instructions.
  • Review charts for completeness and accuracy in accordance with documentation protocols, both prior to and after surgical procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, state board of nursing).
  • Participate in consultations and assist with setup and support for administration of Botox, dermal fillers, and laser procedures.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to intra-operative emergencies or complications.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of surgical supplies and equipment, coordinating reordering as needed.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior listening skills with the ability to comprehend instructions and anticipate patient needs.
  • Strong critical thinking and ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
  • High attention to detail, particularly around sterile technique and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Comfortable working as part of a collaborative surgical team.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • 3+ years of experience in an operating room setting.
  • Active RN license as required by the state of employment.
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • CNOR certification a plus.
  • Experience in dermatologic, plastics, or outpatient surgical settings preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a professional office/clinical environment. The role regularly requires standing, sitting, working at a computer, communicating with employees, managers, physicians, patients, and walking throughout the day. There are no regular lifting requirements beyond standard office/ practice materials. The work environment is typical of a medical practice setting.
