Job description

Senior Software Engineer - Customer Distribution Infrastructure
Location
New York
Business Area
Engineering and CTO
Ref #

Description & Requirements
Is This You: You're the kind of engineer who wants to build high-throughput, fault-tolerant infrastructure that underpins an entire enterprise. You think deeply about system design, latency, data governance and operational resilience. When faced with scalability bottlenecks or race conditions, you don't just patch them - you redesign and architect robust, long-term solutions. You thrive in a collaborative environment where your engineering decisions directly impact thousands of machines and billions of daily transactions.
Our Team: The Customer Distribution Infrastructure team owns the foundational customer data system of record that powers Bloomberg's internal business functions and client-facing experiences. As the trusted source of truth for customer profiles and engagement context, our platform delivers data across Bloomberg instantly and reliably. Our systems underpin everything from core terminal workflows to trading platforms and enterprise applications like the Bloomberg Customer Portal.
We build, scale, and maintain high-availability systems that provide:
  • Enterprise-wide customer data propagation and low-latency access layers
  • High-throughput caching infrastructure handling 6+ billion lookups per day
  • Strict data compliance and privacy controls across permission-bounded APIs
  • Resilient messaging, event propagation and database replication pipelines

What's in it for you: You'll design and evolve the core system at the heart of the Bloomberg ecosystem. Handling roughly 6 billion lookups per day across thousands of machines, your work will directly drive the performance and availability of platforms used across the firm. As a full-stack infrastructure team, we work across backend services, APIs, caches, and observability platforms. You will partner with application teams and stakeholders to build the next generation of data propagation and access patterns while balancing data governance with high performance.
We'll trust you to:
  • Scale local and remote caching layers using C++, Python, and GraphQL to ensure low-latency data retrieval
  • Architect Kubernetes-friendly caching solutions and infrastructure patterns for cloud-native clients
  • Revamp the Customer Record data model to support the evolution of our business processes
  • Implement data governance and compliance frameworks to enforce strict privacy and security
  • Optimize update flows, queue-based event propagation, and database replication while eliminating race conditions
  • Establish strict SLOs/SLAs and build observability frameworks using Grafana dashboards, alerting, and latency analysis

We'll expect you to be:
  • An owner of the platform - you take accountability for building systems that operate reliably at global scale.
  • A solid team player - you collaborate across engineering, product and business stakeholders to build adoptable infrastructure.
  • Performance-focused - you bring a rigorous approach to system design, latency optimization and low-level debugging.
  • Proactive - you contribute ideas to continuously refine observability, architectural standards and development flow.

You'll need to have:
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing, developing and releasing high-quality software in Python, C++, C# and/or TypeScript/JavaScript
  • A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience

We'd love to see:
  • Experience building high-scale caching platforms or data access layers
  • Demonstrated track record working with message brokers, distributed caching and relational databases (e.g., RabbitMQ, Redis, Comdb2, SQL Server, GraphQL)
  • Proven expertise in system design, data modeling and API design
  • Strong fundamentals in low-latency data access & caching mechanisms
  • A high standard for software maturity, operational resilience and data governance
  • Demonstrated experience with performance tuning, memory management and deep latency/error analysis
