Shure offers a challenging, fun, and rewarding summer internship program. The twelve-week program is offered to undergraduate and graduate students. We offer internships with a variety of work arrangements from onsite interns to fully remote in US. Each intern will receive a competitive salary. Additionally, Interns who are asked to relocate to Illinois for onsite internships will receive a housing stipend to cover living expenses. Applications will be collected, reviewed, and selected candidates will be contacted in late fall/early winter.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Data-Driven Sustainability Intern to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will support impactful projects that advance Shureโ€™s sustainability goals through stronger data, analytics, and AI-enabled insights. This data-driven role involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting sustainability data related to energy usage, waste, carbon emissions, regulatory reporting, and other environmental metrics. The intern will help identify opportunities to leverage AI and work toward the creation of a Sustainability Agent that can surface data-driven insights, improve reporting efficiency, and support better decision-making across sustainability initiatives. Additionally, the intern will help develop business process documentation of data requirements, flow, governance needs, and opportunities for automation.

  • Collect, organize, and maintain data related to various sustainability metrics including energy usage, waste management, and carbon emissions. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data and improve data collection processes. 
  • Conduct detailed data analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Identify and document key data sources, data collection methods, and data management procedures. 
  • Conduct research on sustainability best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Develop comprehensive business process documentation of data requirements, flow, and needs, ensuring clarity and consistency across all sustainability projects. 
  • Maintain databases and dashboards to track sustainability performance. 
  • Assist in the preparation of sustainability reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Support sustainability initiatives through data-driven insights and recommendations. 
  • Support the exploration and application of AI tools to generate sustainability insights, streamline reporting, and improve data-driven recommendations. 
  • Contribute to the development of a Sustainability Agent by helping define use cases, data inputs, reporting needs, prompts, workflows, and success measures. 
  • Assist in community outreach and sustainability education programs as needed. 
  • Work closely with IT and other departments to ensure data integrity and accuracy. 

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, or a related field. 
  • Strong proficiency in data collection, organization, and analysis. 
  • Experience with data analysis tools and software such as Excel, Tableau, or similar. 
  • Interest in AI, automation, prompt engineering, or intelligent agent development to support sustainability analytics and reporting. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Passionate about sustainability and making a positive environmental impact.

Each internship has an hourly rate which varies from $23-$43 per hour based on job function (Engineering, IT, Business, etc) and year completed in school (Junior, Masters 2nd year, PHD, etc).
