THE OPPORTUNITY
The First-Gen & Limited-Income Network (FLI Network) is a new initiative at Babson College, building upon existing programming and resources across campus offices and groups. The FLI Network falls within Babson College Student Success, which takes an integrative, synergetic, student-centered approach to developing entrepreneurial leaders. We provide a seamless and supportive living-learning environment that prioritizes self-advocacy, health, and well-being as central to academic, personal, and professional success.
FLI Network leverages this approach with a focus on students whose parents have not completed a 4-year college degree within or outside of the United States. As a population, first-generation students at Babson have grown from 9% in 2019 to 21% of undergraduate enrollment in 2024. We coordinate efforts across the College and develop a comprehensive strategy to support all first-generation students. In Fall 2025, the formerly titled Office of First-Gen Student Success expanded to engage first-generation and the larger student body with limited-income backgrounds. During the 2024-2025 academic year, ~80% of all advising appointments or emails to OFGSS were focused on financial support. We strive to provide community and awareness of financial wellness and capacity building.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Serve as a key liaison with office and departments assigned as part of specific functional area
  • Collaborate with OFGSS Manager and Communications intern to ensure robust information and resources for prospective students, families, and new Babson students
  • Develop and facilitate signature programs, information sessions, and identifying critical programming and information to engage FLI students
  • Collaborate with other interns and campus Departments to plan and execute development events and resource opportunities
  • Develop office materials, including event flyers, brochures, resource materials, social media posts, office branded merchandise, and newsletters or community updates while supporting programming interns in creation of programming materials
  • Partner with Communications & Marketing intern to promote on and off-campus resources to meet financial needs, including Pam Barefoot Fund, Emergency Fund, Got Your Back Fund, food and housing security resources
  • Identify financial-adjacent needs and opportunities to promote, research, or explore including but not limited to: affordable off-campus transportation options (Babson Uber program, potential new programs offered by OFGSS), housing security and rent/utility programs.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED
  • Enrollment as a Babson College student (required
  • Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the start of employment
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to engage with peers, faculty, and staff during event facilitation, acting as a representative to the FLI community and Babson College
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and maintain confidentiality of students entering and engaging with the FLI Network staff and programming
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skill
  • Attention to detail
  • Flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks and special projects
  • Fluency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
  • Basic knowledge or willingness to learn Babson College and Office marketing guidelines and online design tools

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK
Hours: Part Time; 8 hours/week (unless otherwise noted)
Location: In-Office, Alternative locations possible during events and outreach opportunities
Start Date: August 19, 2026 (pre-matriculation)
Term Details:
  • Current/former undergraduate interns/fellows selected to return must make at least a semester commitment
  • New undergraduate interns/fellows must make a full academic year commitment
  • Number of/schedule of hours may change with the needs of the office, including programming and break periods.
  • The Office is typically open M-F 9:00am-5:00pm, with nights and weekends as needed; working hours will be in-office. Possible remote or alternative locations depending on Office needs and abilities.
  • All interns will need to be available in-person on Fridays from 10am-11am for weekly staff meetings.
