Job description

Electrical Journeyman

A growing commercial construction and operational technology company is hiring an Electrical Journeyman to support commercial building projects within 30 miles of Montgomery, AL. This role is for a hands-on electrician who can install, troubleshoot, repair, and support commercial electrical systems while working closely with field leadership and helping mentor less-experienced employees and interns.

The best-fit candidate has commercial electrical construction experience, strong troubleshooting instincts, and the ability to work across conduit, feeders, branch circuits, panels, lighting, equipment connections, low-voltage coordination, controls-adjacent systems, and commercial building infrastructure.

Location: Within 30 miles of Montgomery, AL

Start Date: First week of September

Work Setting: Primarily onsite at commercial construction jobsites in the Montgomery area, with coordination through the Mobile, AL home office

Role Type: Contract-to-hire with potential to be hired on full time day 1 based on skill set and candidate needs

Responsibilities

  • Perform commercial electrical installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and startup support.
  • Install and support conduit, feeders, branch circuits, panels, lighting, devices, equipment connections, grounding, labeling, and related commercial electrical infrastructure.
  • Support low-voltage, controls-adjacent, and building systems coordination when needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, one-lines, panel schedules, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues and identify practical corrective actions.
  • Assist with inspection readiness, testing, commissioning support, and punch list completion.
  • Coordinate daily work with Electrical Superintendents, Project Managers, and other trades.
  • Maintain accurate material awareness and communicate shortages or field needs.
  • Help mentor apprentices, interns, and less-experienced field employees through hands-on guidance.
  • Follow NEC, OSHA, company, customer, and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Model strong craftsmanship, reliability, professionalism, and jobsite conduct.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of commercial or industrial electrical experience preferred.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting ability across commercial building systems.
  • Experience with conduit, wire pulling, panels, feeders, branch circuits, lighting, devices, equipment connections, and electrical rough-in/trim-out.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, one-lines, specifications, panel schedules, and shop drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work across different electrical scopes.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, including possible trips to Mobile, AL.
  • Ability to work outdoors, climb ladders/scaffolding/rooftops/aerial lifts, lift up to 75 lbs, and work in active jobsites, ceilings, mechanical/electrical rooms, rooftops, and occupied facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician license.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Experience mentoring apprentices, interns, or junior field employees.
  • Experience with commercial facilities, healthcare, education, municipal, aviation, industrial, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with inspections, punch lists, startup support, equipment connections, and owner turnover.
  • Exposure to controls, low-voltage systems, BAS coordination, or operational technology environments.
