Internship Autocad Developer information

What does an internship AutoCAD developer do?

An Internship AutoCAD Developer assists in creating, modifying, and managing 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD software. They typically work under the supervision of senior engineers or architects, supporting design projects in fields such as engineering, architecture, or construction. Tasks may include drafting technical drawings, revising plans based on feedback, and collaborating with team members to ensure design accuracy. This internship provides hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and processes, helping interns develop valuable technical and teamwork skills.

What types of projects and tasks can an internship AutoCAD developer expect to work on during their internship?

As an Internship AutoCAD Developer, you can expect to assist with creating, modifying, and reviewing technical drawings and blueprints under the supervision of senior engineers or architects. Common tasks include drafting detailed 2D and 3D models, collaborating with team members on design revisions, and ensuring drawings comply with project specifications and industry standards. You may also participate in meetings to discuss design changes and gain exposure to project workflows, which provides valuable hands-on experience and insight into real-world applications of AutoCAD in professional settings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship AutoCAD developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship AutoCAD Developer, you need a foundational understanding of drafting, design principles, and a background in engineering or architecture, often supported by relevant coursework. Proficiency in AutoCAD software and familiarity with related tools like Revit or SketchUp are typically required, and certification in AutoCAD can be advantageous. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and interpreting project specifications. These skills ensure accurate technical drawings, efficient teamwork, and successful project outcomes in design and engineering environments.

What is the difference between Internship Autocad Developer vs Junior Autocad Designer?

AspectInternship Autocad DeveloperJunior Autocad Designer
QualificationsEnrolled in or recent graduate of engineering or architecture programsDiploma or degree in architecture, engineering, or related fields
Work EnvironmentInternship setting, often in engineering or construction firmsDesign offices, architectural firms, or engineering companies
ResponsibilitiesAssisting in AutoCAD drafting, learning project workflowsCreating detailed AutoCAD drawings, modifying existing designs
Experience LevelEntry-level, learning-focusedEntry to mid-level, with some project experience

The main difference between an Internship Autocad Developer and a Junior Autocad Designer lies in their experience and responsibilities. Internships focus on learning and assisting, while Junior Designers handle more detailed design tasks. Both roles require AutoCAD skills and are common in engineering and architecture industries.

Job description

Description

Who we are:

EDAG Inc. is a globally leading, independent engineering services provider that combines excellent engineering with the latest technology trends. ย We are the experts in the all-round development of complete vehicles and smart factories. Our interdisciplinary expertise in the areas of software and digitalization means that we have the crucial skills to actively shape dynamic transformation processes as an innovative partner.ย

Development with passion. That's us.

Our expertise has made us what we are: leading independent global engineering experts for automotive and non-automotive companies, who combine engineering excellence with the latest technological trends.

With an interdisciplinary team of around 9,000 experts, EDAG develops unique mobility and industrial solutions for customers that include the world's leading automotive and non-automotive companies.

This is how you will grow:

The Junior Material Flow Engineer supports the design, documentation, and field verification of material handling equipment and lineside layouts for a greenfield automotive assembly launch. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role - the work is split between CAD layout development, PFEP and equipment database maintenance, and regular site visits to field-check conditions and support installation.

The role works under the direction of senior material flow engineers and interfaces with client teams and contractors in the field. It is a strong fit for an early-career engineer who wants real program exposure on a ground-up vehicle launch rather than sustaining work.

The position is Michigan-based with consistent on-site travel to Indiana. Candidates local to the Warsaw/Fort Wayne area will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain lineside material layout drawings in AutoCAD 2D; 3D exposure applied where available
  • Maintain equipment tracking logs, PFEP inputs, and parts classification documentation in Excel and Access
  • Conduct field visits to verify as-built conditions, check equipment placement against design intent, and document ย ย ย ย ย discrepancies
  • Support installation activities by coordinating with contractors on-site and escalating issues to senior engineers
  • Assist in preparing engineering deliverables including RFQ exhibits, equipment cut sheets, and layout packages

Requirements

This is how you will take us forward:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, ย Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline
  • Direct exposure to automotive manufacturing ย environments required - co-op, internship, or early professional experience in a plant setting is the baseline; candidates without this ย will not be considered
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D; ability to read and redline ย construction and equipment drawings
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data tracking and documentation
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Indiana regularly throughout the program

No Sponsorship is available at this time
