Primary Function
The AV Technician is an entry-level role focused on learning and supporting the installation of commercial audiovisual systems. This position is ideal for individuals who are eager to develop technical skills, gain hands-on experience, and build a career in the AV industry. Working under the guidance of senior staff, the AV Technician plays a critical role in delivering high-quality installations and supporting project success.
 
Responsibilities: 
·         Pull, terminate, label, and test AV cabling under the supervision of senior technicians.
·         Assist with the installation of equipment such as displays, projectors, speakers, microphones, racks, and control devices.
·         Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and vehicles.
·         Support Lead Technicians in performing system setup, testing, and troubleshooting.
·         Follow company safety policies and industry best practices on all job sites.
·         Accurately document work performed, including labeling, redlining drawings, and updating project notes.
·         Continuously develop technical skills through training, mentorship, and hands-on experience.
·         Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with clients, contractors, and team members.
·         Contribute to the successful completion of projects by assisting with tasks as directed.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications:
·         Ability to read schematics.
·         Ability to tune and tweak audio systems.
·         Strong soldering skills.
·         Audio and video cable fabrication.
·         Cable pulling and rack fabrication.
·         Familiarity with Creston and AMX control systems, audio consoles, power amplifiers, digital signal processors, video matrix switchers, video scale interfaces and digital video records.
·         Able to bench test equipment and when needed prepare equipment to be sent out for repairs.
·         A strong sense of urgency in solving customer requests to ensure timely resolution is critical.
·         Must be capable of working at heights and have good balance, may be required to lift heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.
·         Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment are essential.
·         Must be a self-starter and a team player.
·         Must be willing to undergo and successfully pass a background check.
·         0–2 years of experience in AV installation, electrical, low-voltage, or related trades (training provided for the right candidate).
·         Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and safe work practices.
·         Willingness to learn AV standards, cabling methods, and installation practices.
·         Ability to read and follow instructions, drawings, and technical documents.
·         Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
·         Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
·         Physical ability to lift and maneuver equipment, work on ladders/lifts, and perform tasks on active construction sites.
·         Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
·         Interest in pursuing AV industry certifications (CTS, CTS-I) is a plus.
 
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
·         Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree preferred; will also consider Technical school training with electronics/installation training and related experience.
·         3+ years of experience with AV installation of various sizes.
·         InfoComm CTS and/or CTS-1 preferred.
·         Valid Driver’s License and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets Tangram’s driving standards.

Physical Demands:
·         The duties of this position require the ability to bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders and to stand for long periods of time.
·         Candidate must be capable of working at heights and have good balance.
·         Candidate may be required to lift, push or pull heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.
·         Adverse conditions may include noise and dust.
·         Operate a motor vehicle.
