Job description

Position Summary
The Mobile Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all preventive maintenance, maintenance, and repair activities for ASARCO Ray Mine's mobile equipment fleet, including CAT Autonomous 794AC's, CAT 995 loaders, Komatsu 785 water trucks and a variety of graders, dozers, and other support equipment. This role ensures the safe, efficient, timely, and reliable operation of both conventional and autonomous equipment through the effective execution of preventive maintenance activities that maximize equipment reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and support production goals. The position emphasizes safety, environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and data-driven decision making, leveraging systems such as MineStar, VisionLink, PI Vision, and Power BI to optimize fleet performance while applying risk-based thinking to balance production priorities, maintenance efficiency, and cost control.
Key Responsibilities
  • Champion a zero-harm safety culture aligned with ASARCO OIS, ISO 45001, and MSHA standards.
  • Promote environmental stewardship in alignment with ISO 14001 requirements
  • Apply risk-based thinking to plan and execute maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, and job-specific risk evaluations.
  • Lead incident investigations, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implement corrective actions.
  • Enforce proper PPE use, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work practices around autonomous equipment.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Maintenance & Operations
  • Plan, prioritize, and oversee preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance activities.
  • Ensure PM tasks are completed on time, to standard, and in alignment with OEM and ASARCO requirements.
  • Maintain and optimize PM schedules, checklists, and procedures to improve fleet reliability.
  • Coordinate PM activities with operations, dispatch, and planning teams to minimize downtime and production impacts.
  • Review and execute weekly and monthly maintenance schedules.
  • Utilize MineStar, VisionLink, PI Vision, and Power BI for equipment health monitoring and maintenance planning.

Equipment Reliability and Autonomous Haul Support
  • Lead inspections, diagnostics, condition monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities for CAT 794 autonomous haul trucks, CAT 995 loaders, water trucks, graders, dozers, and other support equipment.
  • Identify early signs of wear, component failure, or system issues, initiate corrective actions, and assist in diagnosing faults related to guidance systems, communications, onboard control systems, sensors, and vehicle health monitoring systems.
  • Support Autonomous Haulage maintenance requirements, including onboard technology, communication networks, guidance systems, and safety systems, ensuring equipment reliability and system integrity.
  • Coordinate with AHS, dispatch, reliability, and technology teams to support safe, efficient, and reliable autonomous operations while promoting adherence to autonomous interaction protocols and operational safety zones.
  • Collaborate with reliability engineers and technical teams to analyze equipment trends, improve maintenance strategies, and implement long-term reliability improvements.

Leadership & Workforce Management
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop maintenance technicians and apprentices.
  • Provide strong leadership and daily supervision of maintenance personnel.
  • Enforce company policies, labor agreements, and safety standards
  • Manage attendance, performance, disciplinary actions and employee relations in coordination with HR and union representatives.
  • Foster positive labor relations and collaborate with union representatives
  • Provide training on PM procedures, diagnostics, equipment systems, and autonomous haulage technologies.

Administrative & Financial
  • Review, update, and close SAP work orders with accurate equipment history and maintenance notes.
  • Manage parts, materials, tools, and consumables required for maintenance activities.
  • Monitor maintenance costs and resource utilization
  • Track and analyze maintenance KPIs using digital reporting tools

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in mining or heavy equipment environments
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred

Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Diesel engines and heavy mobile mining equipment
    • Electric drive haul truck systems and autonomous haul technologies
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • Low-voltage electrical and lubrication systems
  • Experience with:
    • MineStar and Vision Link systems
    • PI Vision and Power BI for data analysis and reporting
    • Oil analysis and condition monitoring programs
    • Caterpillar 794AC electric drive autonomous haul trucks
    • Komatsu 785 water trucks and 830E haul trucks
    • Caterpillar dozers (D8, D10, D11's)
    • Caterpillar motor graders (14, 16, 18 & 24's)
    • Caterpillar Loaders (988, 992, 995's)
    • Boom trucks and light-duty vehicles
  • Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of:
    • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
    • Predictive and preventative maintenance strategies
  • Proficiency with:
    • SAP and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of MSHA safety and environmental regulations

Working Conditions
  • Open pit mining environment with exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment, and extreme weather
  • Interaction with autonomous and manned equipment, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols
  • May require extended hours, shift work, and on-call responsibilities

Additional Duties
  • Attend industry workshops and training focused on autonomous systems, digital mining tools, and best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned
