Company Description US Techs provides aircraft repositioning services for domestic and international clients, using a fleet of tow-bar-less tow vehicles to handle multiple tows during peak operations. Industry-certified technicians reposition a wide range of commercial and freight aircraft to help customers maximize terminal gate utilization. US Techs operates a 180,000-square-foot hangar in a prime logistics location at O’Hare International Airport, where customer aircraft can be maintained during inclement weather, between gate assignments, and for other logistical needs. US Techs emphasizes safety, professionalism, and innovation in all aspects of its operations, offering a stable environment for technical and mechanical professionals.


Role Description The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic – Electrical Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in O'Hare International Airport.


USTechs is hiring a certified Ground Support Equipment (GSE) mechanic to maintain and repair tractors and ramp equipment at O'Hare International Airport. This role requires strong hands-on electrical diagnostic and repair experience across DC vehicle electrical systems, battery-electric GSE, and airport ground-power equipment in addition to standard mechanical/diesel repair skills.


Requirements


  • ASE Electrical/Electronic (A6) certification or equivalent; Engine repair or Diesel preferred;
  • 3+ years GSE/heavy equipment/diesel/automotive electrical and repair experience;
  • Demonstrated experience with DC electrical systems (12V/24V/48V) and wiring diagram troubleshooting. 
  • Hands-on with 12V/24V/48V DC systems, battery-electric GSE, and/or 400Hz ground power units;
  • Able to pass TSA/airport authority background check and obtain SIDA badge;
  • Additional background check and passing drug screen are required;
  • Valid driver's license (CDL a plus if equipment is towed on public roads);
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
  • Flexible shifts (nights/weekends/on-call);
  • Own basic hand tools.


Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain baggage tractors, pushback tractors, belt loaders, and related GSE;
  • Troubleshoot and repair 12V/24V/48V DC electrical systems, wiring harnesses, starters, alternators, and battery systems; 
  • Service and repair battery-electric GSE, including charging systems, battery management systems, and motor controllers;
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ground power units (GPUs) and 400Hz ground power systems; 
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and DOT/OSHA-required inspections; 
  • Complete work orders, parts requisitions, and maintenance records accurately and on time; 
  • Respond to on-ramp equipment breakdowns, including outside during Chicago winter conditions; 
  • Follow all lockout/tagout, arc flash, and ramp safety protocols.


Preferred


  • OEM-specific training/certification (TLD, JBT, Global Ground Support, Douglas, Tug Technologies, or similar);
  • EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification;
  • Prior experience working on an active airport ramp/AOA; 
  • CAN bus / telematics diagnostic experience on modern GSE fleets. 



Pay and Apply


  • $35–$38/hr ($40/hr up to $45/hr for Lead/Senior Electrical Specialist), based on experience.
