What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship AI Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship AI Operator, you need foundational knowledge in computer science, data analysis, and machine learning concepts, often demonstrated through relevant coursework or academic projects. Familiarity with programming languages like Python, AI frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, and basic data management tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with teams and contribute to project goals. These skills ensure you can efficiently support AI model development, testing, and deployment in a dynamic technical environment.

Internship AI Operators often face challenges such as adapting to rapidly evolving technologies, understanding complex data sets, and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. To overcome these, it's helpful to actively seek mentorship from experienced team members, participate in regular team meetings to stay updated on project goals, and utilize available learning resources to strengthen both technical and soft skills. Embracing a collaborative mindset and being open to feedback also play key roles in navigating the learning curve and contributing effectively to AI projects.

Job description

AI & Technology Internship

In-House Entrepreneur – AI & Technology Innovation

Company: Basement Kings USA
Location: Roanoke or Lynchburg, VA (In-Person)
Job Type: Full-Time or Internship-to-Full-Time

About Basement Kings USA

Basement Kings USA is a rapidly growing foundation repair and basement waterproofing company operating across the Southeast and Midwest. We’ve grown more than 4x in the past year and we’re just getting started.

We serve both residential and commercial customers across Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, and Georgia. Our culture is fast-paced, hands-on, and built around people who take initiative and like to execute on ideas.

About the Role

This is not a traditional job as so much of an opportunity to operate like an in-house entrepreneur.

You’ll work directly with local leadership to understand how the business runs from the ground up, spending time in the field with sales reps and production crews, and in the office across sales, marketing, operations, and finance.

From there, your job is simple in theory (but challenging in practice):
Find problems. Build solutions. Make the business and our amazing team better.

A major focus of this role will be identifying opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and technology to improve efficiency, communication, and scalability across the company.

What You’ll Actually Do

  • Ride along with sales reps and production crews to understand our process end-to-end
  • Identify manual, repetitive, or broken workflows and propose technology-driven solutions
  • Research, test, and implement AI tools across sales, customer communication, scheduling, and other functions
  • Document what works, kill what doesn't, and move to the next problem

Who We’re Looking For

  • Genuine interest in both technology and how businesses make money
  • Comfortable being in the field, talking to people, not just sitting behind a screen
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, and willing to work in an environment where the playbook is still being written
  • Experience with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Zapier, etc.)

Bonus (Not Required):

  • Exposure to sales, operations, or small business environments

Logistics

  • Location: Roanoke or Lynchburg, VA (regular travel between offices and job sites)
  • Schedule: Full-Time or Internship
  • Compensation: $40,000 – $50,000/year (based on experience)

Why This Role Is Different

Most entry roles and internships teach you tasks and have you handle the mundane. This role lets you be the entrepreneur and innovate inside a real and growing business.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or any other characteristic or status protected by federal or state laws.
