The Center for Career Services is hiring for the 2026-2027 school year!
At the Center for Career Services, students have the opportunity to apply for a paid leadership position (available for FWS recipients) that focuses on supporting their peers with their internship and career search, primarily through hosting in-person, drop-in resume and cover letter reviews. Students in the role work directly with the Center for Career Services' team of Career Coaches to engage in meaningful exploration with peers and professionals, and develop essential skills that will help them thrive in the workforce.
Position Specific Summary
About the Program
A Career Ambassador (CA) is a student leader who works closely with the Center for Career Services to provide guidance and support to fellow students in their career development. As a CA, their primary responsibility is to review resumes, cover letters, and applications for part-time jobs, internships, and campus leadership positions.

In addition to reviewing documents, the CA may also conduct workshops on career-related topics such as job searching strategies, interview preparation, and networking. They may also assist with planning and executing career-related events on campus, such as career fairs and employer information sessions. Each week, CAs will assist the department's staff with the completion of administrative tasks that support students in accessing the Center's services and internship/job postings.

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has an interest in career development and is committed to helping others. They should possess excellent communication skills and be able to provide constructive feedback in a supportive and encouraging manner. They should also be well-organized and able to manage their time effectively.

Overall, a CA plays an essential role in helping fellow students prepare for their future careers by providing guidance, support, and feedback on their job and leadership applications.
As a CA, primary responsibilities will be to:
  • Host drop-in hours to review resumes, cover letters, and applications for part-time jobs, internships, and campus leadership positions. (~25-50% time)
  • Work independently and interdependently on special projects such as creating career related materials for special populations of students, creating content for social media, preparing materials for outreach, keeping Handshake up-to-date, and so much more. (~25-50% time)
  • Support Center for Career Services by marketing and supporting programs throughout the semester (including evenings) for major events or campus partnership events like the Career Exploration Expo and Expo-week events. (~0-25% time)
  • Present workshops on career development topics such as resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, networking, and job/internship search. (~0-25% time)

The position is expected to range 6-10 hours per week, with a standard week being about 7-8 hours, based on schedule availability. In weeks with major events, like the Career Exploration Expo, Career Ambassadors will be asked to work more than 10 hours, if their schedule permits. Typical work weeks will be within normal business hours (9am-5pm), but special events will request evening or weekend hours, as schedules permit.
