SOLICITATION FOR FACULTY MEMBERS AT
NEW YORK CITY CHARTER SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR

For the 2026-2027 school year, New York City Charter School of the Arts is seeking:

  • Math teacher, grade 6

 

THE SCHOOL

  • NYC Charter School of the Arts, founded in 2015 in downtown Manhattan, serves about 250 students in grades 6, 7 and 8 in its own standalone building in the South Street Seaport neighborhood of lower Manhattan.
  • Students spend about a third of each day making and studying art, and take two different arts classes at any one time, many of them taught by teaching artists who serve on the staff of the school.
  • Students come from all five boroughs, and the school features a diversity of students that mirrors the city's diversity.

THE CORE TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plan units to address big ideas within disciplines;
  2. Plan lessons both independently and collaboratively that are organized in the context of developed units and that include individual measurable objectives;
  3. Teach both independently and collaboratively with other teachers-including general education, special education and ENL teachers (most teaching schedules are four 50-minute classes a day, plus one 50-minute Advisory class four days a week);
  4. Teach reading using targeted intervention strategies, including shared and guided reading, in small groups;
  5. Run a daily advisory class that includes daily student goal-setting and independent reading and a daily morning meeting;
  6. Implement common, school-wide behavioral and instructional practices that address room management and culture-building, student citizenship and good behavior monitoring. family outreach, reading and writing routines, questioning and discussion routines, and assessment;
  7. Regularly administer, collect, and analyze assessment data gathered from a variety of sources;
  8. Use Google Classroom and other domain-specific platforms to create and maintain updated classroom and assignment streams, distribute student work, and assess student work;
  9. Participate in ongoing professional learning and support colleagues by providing regular feedback on their practices; and
  10. Participate in at least one of the school's committees, including but not limited to Hiring, Budget, Professional Development, Leadership, Calendar and Programming, Community Outreach, Events, and Awards.
