Power Generation Commissioning Manager
Play an integral role in delivering complex power generation projects that sit at the intersection of reliability, performance, and the global energy transition. You will operate at the point where engineering design, construction execution, and operational readiness converge-ensuring systems are fully integrated, tested, and optimized before handover. This role is both strategic and hands-on, giving you the opportunity to directly influence plant performance, safety outcomes, and long-term asset value.
Purpose of the role
Play an integral role in leading the pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up of large-scale power generation facilities. You will ensure systems are installed, tested, and operated in a manner that achieves full operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and optimal performance. This position combines technical depth, operational expertise, and leadership to deliver safe and efficient project outcomes across the full lifecycle.
You will be responsible for
You will lead commissioning execution with a focus on safety, technical excellence, and integrated project delivery. Key accountabilities include:
  • Providing overall commissioning leadership for combined cycle, cogeneration, and gas turbine power generation projects from planning through start-up and handover
  • Developing and executing commissioning strategies, including systemization, procedures, schedules, and resource planning
  • Integrating commissioning activities into the overall project execution plan, ensuring alignment with engineering, procurement, and construction milestones
  • Establishing start-up sequencing, logic, and durations to support project schedule development and execution
  • Managing commissioning teams, vendor partners, and specialist resources, including oversight of FAT and SAT activities for critical systems
  • Providing technical leadership across key plant systems, including boilers, gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, instrumentation, and balance-of-plant infrastructure
  • Conducting and supporting performance analysis, including thermal efficiency, heat rate evaluation, and system optimization using engineering tools
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable standards, codes, and regulatory requirements, supporting safe and compliant operations
  • Driving a strong safety culture throughout commissioning and start-up activities, including risk identification, mitigation planning, and field leadership
  • Validating operational readiness to ensure systems perform safely, reliably, and efficiently prior to turnover to operations
  • Supporting cost control, capital planning, and performance optimization across commissioning and start-up phases
  • Coordinating closely with project management, construction, operations, and client stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery and transition to operations
  • Supporting grid synchronization and operational readiness in coordination with transmission organizations

What you'll bring to the role
You bring a combination of deep technical expertise, commissioning leadership experience, and the ability to deliver results in complex, high-risk environments.
  • Extensive commissioning and start-up experience within power generation, with a strong focus on gas turbines, steam systems, and combined cycle facilities
  • A First Class Power Engineer certification, Chief certification, or equivalent experience enabling oversight of large-scale power plant operations
  • Demonstrated experience operating as Chief Engineer or Senior Shift Supervisor, with accountability for operations, maintenance, and safety
  • A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification
  • Strong knowledge of Rankine cycle theory, power plant thermodynamics, instrumentation, controls, and balance-of-plant systems
  • Proven experience leading commissioning planning, procedure development, O&M deliverables, and start-up execution for large capital projects
  • Solid project management capability, including schedule integration, capital planning, and cost control
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, with a focus on mentoring, development, and building high-performing organizations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions in complex environments
  • A practical, safety-first mindset with the ability to operate effectively in high-risk, high-consequence commissioning environments
