Fiber Optic Installation Technician – Job Description

Summary

We’re seeking a skilled, professional Fiber Optic Installation Technician with prior experience in FTTH, telecommunications, cable, satellite, or lowvoltage installation. The ideal candidate brings handson fiber installation and troubleshooting expertise, strong customerservice skills, and the ability to work independently across multiple jobs per day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install fiberoptic service at residential and commercial customer locations.

  • Run fiber from terminals, pedestals, handholes, poles, or other network connection points to customer premises.

  • Install and route interior/exterior fiber cabling, including drilling through walls when required.

  • Install fiber drops, NIDs/enclosures, ONTs, routers, and other customerpremise equipment.

  • Perform fiber terminations, connector installation, and splicing as needed.

  • Test optical signal levels using optical power meters, OTDRs, light sources, and visual fault locators.

  • Verify installations meet required specifications and activate internet or related services.

  • Configure routers, WiFi equipment, and confirm proper connectivity.

  • Troubleshoot fiber, equipment, WiFi, and general connectivity issues.

  • Educate customers on installed equipment, services, and basic operation.

  • Maintain a clean, professional work area during and after installation.

  • Document completed work, equipment used, test results, and installation details.

  • Capture required photographs and complete electronic work orders.

  • Maintain company tools, testing equipment, vehicles, and inventory.

  • Follow all company, customer, OSHA, and jobsite safety requirements.

  • Communicate with supervisors and dispatch regarding job status, issues, damages, or additional work needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous FTTH, telecom, cable, satellite, or lowvoltage installation experience preferred.

  • Fiber optic installation and troubleshooting experience strongly preferred.

  • Ability to use fiber testing equipment (optical power meters, visual fault locators, etc.).

  • Ability to safely operate drills, hand tools, ladders, and installation equipment.

  • Basic understanding of home networking, routers, WiFi, and Ethernet.

  • Strong customerservice skills and professional appearance.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple jobs daily.

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings when required.

  • Must possess a truck, basic hand tools, and a ladder.

  • Splicer lease available if needed.
