Job description

Division: Bank Operations
Department: Cash Management Support Services
Reports to: Trade Finance Manager
Status: Exempt
Grade: 9E
Pay Range: $52,000-$90,498
Salary range updated 4/10/2026. Actual compensation within the pay range will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.
Location: MA, NY, CT, RI, VT
Purpose/Objective:
The Trade Finance Specialist is responsible for technical execution, precise documentation, review, and administration of trade finance products. This role ensures that client transactions are processed accurately, securely, and in strict compliance with international banking regulations and trade laws (i.e. International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) guidelines) as well as internal policies, and other regulatory standards to minimize risk to the bank while delivering accurate and timely service to customers.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Issuing, advising, amending, and settling Letters of Credit (L/Cs), Standby L/Cs, and Bank Guarantees
  • Reviewing complex shipping documents (Invoices, Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin) against L/C terms to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Executing primary Anti-Money Laundering (AML), sanction-list screening, and dual use goods checks for every assigned transaction.
  • Identify and escalate potentially fraudulent or non-compliant transactions
  • Act as the primary operational contact for corporate clients to resolve documentation errors, clarify banking fees, and guide transactional steps
  • Reconcile fees, manage maturities, process drawings, and maintain accurate records within the bank's core trade system
  • Process issuance and advisement of intermediate-level Commercial, Performance and Financial Standby Letters of Credit
  • Ensure adherence to International Trade Finance (ITF) policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Maintain compliance with company risk standards and regulatory requirements
  • Support internal and external audits by implementing controls and addressing findings.
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in project initiatives as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, International Business or related field OR a minimum of 4 years of combined higher education and relevant work experience
  • Certifications highly preferred include CDCS (Certified Documentary Credit Specialist) or CITF (Certificate in International Trade and Finance)

Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of direct operational experience handling trade finance transactions within a commercial bank or other financial institution

Skills & Knowledge:
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of Incoterms 2020
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity and/or proficiency with banking systems and trade finance platforms
