Operating Engineer Details

Essential Job Duties:

  • Assists the Central Energy Plant Tech 1 to maintain and operate high pressure boilers with combination natural gas/fuel oil burners in the Central Energy Plant.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance, and unscheduled maintenance repairs on all Central Energy Plant equipment.
  • Prepares all boiler(s) and chiller(s) and other pressure vessels for inspection when necessary, in any or all buildings.
  • Operates system controls and/or computer-generated programs as necessary for the operation of the Central Energy Plant.
  • Services and cleans mechanical room equipment in each building including but not limited to equipment, work areas and floors.
  • Checks and records equipment data from meters, pressure gauges, temperature gauges, voltage meters, fuel pressures, oil pressures, and fuel supply if operating on standby fuel.
  • Analyzes, anticipates and, if necessary, takes immediate corrective action on potential problem conditions.
  • The employee will be available as a CEP Tech II to fill shifts during vacation periods or whenever any Central Energy Plant Tech II is unable to work his shift.
  • Works overtime, rotates shifts and holidays.

Qualifications:

  • Electrical/mechanical background; knowledge of steam generation; knowledge of chill water generation and distribution systems; ability to interpret blueprints; ability to follow prescribed water treatment program under the direction of the water treatment vendor.
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatic and digital controls including flow diagrams.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA, ISDH, AIA , IOSHA, HFPA, Life Safety 101 codes and standards as applied to the Health Care Industry.
  • Knowledge of supplies and equipment necessary for the mechanical operation of all facilities outlined previously.
  • Knowledge of all mechanical/electrical systems and operations associated with the Health Care industry.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, customers, and staff
