Android Test Engineer - AI Device Innovation | 18-Month Contract | Redmond, WA
About the Role
Join Apex as an Android Test Engineer and be at the forefront of shaping the future of AI-powered devices and enterprise experiences. This 18-month contract opportunity places you on a highly collaborative team focused on agent-first computing and next-generation intelligent devices deeply integrated into the Microsoft ecosystem. You will drive robust test automation, quality engineering, and seamless device lab operations to deliver reliable, secure, and innovative enterprise solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop, expand, and maintain unit and component-level automated tests for Android applications to maximize reliability and regression coverage.
- Operate and maintain a physical Android device test lab, including provisioning, configuring, updating, and ensuring test readiness of devices.
- Collaborate closely with Senior Android SDET to integrate automated tests into existing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines, troubleshoot failures, and enhance test reliability.
- Identify test coverage gaps and high-risk areas, contribute to test planning, and prioritize regression testing using product change data and telemetry.
- Troubleshoot product and test issues by reproducing defects, analyzing device logs, crash data, and telemetry, validating fixes, and supporting release readiness.
- Monitor and sustain build pipelines, repositories, and dependencies; address operational, maintenance, and security needs as required.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on Android test automation experience.
- Proficient in Kotlin, Java, and C++ for writing and debugging code.
- Demonstrated expertise in writing and maintaining robust unit tests.
- 5+ years of overall software engineering or quality engineering experience.
- Experience with physical device lab operations, Android OS, and test frameworks.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities with logs, crash data, and telemetry.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with agent-first computing concepts and enterprise device integration.
- Prior experience supporting large-scale CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure.
- Exposure to Microsoft ecosystem and security-focused testing practices.
