Job description

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the technical oversight of the Engineering and Technology business lines. They will provide independent technical oversight, governance, and leadership while supporting project execution, innovation, and continuous improvement. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain engineering policies, standards, procedures, and design practices.
  • Ensure engineering products comply with applicable codes, regulations, quality requirements, and client expectations.
  • Ensure consistent design processes, standardized work practices, methodologies, technologies, systems, and equipment that meet company and project needs.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineering staff
  • Work closely with senior staff to ensure company and project goals are met.
  • Resolve technical differences of opinion between engineering staff.
  • Assess and manage technical risks associated with overall program and individual projects.
  • Assist with business development and proposal generation.

Accountabilities:

  • Must have advanced knowledge of engineering theories, concepts, principles, techniques and their practical application.
  • Requires a broad knowledge of engineering tools and proficiency with computer aided design and analysis of engineering software programs.
  • Ability to author technical and management reports to support technical approach and project needs/expenditures.
  • Requires strong leadership qualities, as well as excellent communication skills.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor engineering team members.

Education & Certifications:

A Bachelorโ€™s degree and Professional Registration in an Engineering discipline is required. Advanced degree and additional engineering credentials are strongly desired.

Experience & Requirements:

Minimum of 15 years technical experience in both design and analysis of engineered systems with demonstrated, progressive experience in both areas is required. Experience should include proficiency managing and modifying engineering processes and procedures to target a high-quality and efficient engineering process.
A minimum of 4 years of experience in a supervisory role, preferably managing a team of ten or more engineers and an outstanding record of successful projects. 

Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Preferred knowledge with the application of ASME NQA-1 Quality Assurance requirements.
