POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Quality Management System (QMS) Systems Lead is responsible for leading, maintaining, and continuously improving Hazelett’s Quality Management System to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and applicable customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. This role serves as the organizational owner of the QMS, working cross-functionally with all departments to promote process discipline, risk-based thinking, and continual improvement. The QMS Systems Lead has no direct reports but exercises significant influence across the organization.


WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Quality Management System Leadership

· Lead and maintain the company’s ISO 9001:2015 compliant Quality Management System, ensuring alignment with business objectives and operational needs.

· Interpret and apply ISO 9001:2015 requirements across the organization, ensuring consistent understanding and implementation.

· Coordinate and support external certification, surveillance, and recertification audits, serving as the primary point of contact with registrars.

· Ensure documented information is established, implemented, maintained, and controlled in accordance with ISO requirements.

· Act as the management representative for the QMS, ensuring system integrity and effectiveness.

· Plan, coordinate, and facilitate management review activities, including preparation of inputs, documentation of outputs, and follow up on assigned actions.


Internal Quality Management

· Develop process control plans including statistical requirements.

· Develop gauges and fixtures needed for proper inspection.

· Define and execute first article inspections.


Internal Auditing

· Develop and maintain the internal audit program, including audit schedules, auditor qualification, and audit execution.

· Plan, conduct, and/or coordinate internal audits to verify QMS conformity and effectiveness.

· Ensure timely documentation of audit results and follow-up on audit findings.


Corrective Action and Risk Management

· Lead the corrective and preventive action (CA) process, ensuring effective root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.

· Promote and support risk-based thinking through identification, evaluation, and mitigation of process and system risks.

· Monitor the effectiveness of corrective actions and ensure closure.


Supplier Quality Management

· Maintain and oversee the supplier quality program in alignment with ISO 9001:2015 requirements.

· Establish and maintain criteria for supplier selection, evaluation, reevaluation, and monitoring.

· Support supplier qualification activities, including quality system assessments and risk evaluations as required.

· Review and analyze supplier performance metrics, including quality, delivery, and responsiveness, and work with suppliers to address deficiencies.

· Coordinate and support supplier corrective actions, ensuring effective root cause analysis and verification of corrective action effectiveness.

· Collaborate with Purchasing, Engineering, and Operations to ensure supplier quality requirements are defined, communicated, and maintained.


Incoming Inspection

· Oversee the incoming inspection process for purchased materials and components. Establish inspection criteria, train inspection personnel, and collaborate with engineering and procurement to address supplier quality issues.


Training and Awareness

· Ensure QMS-related training, awareness, and competency requirements are defined and met.

· Provide guidance and training to employees on QMS requirements, procedures, and best practices.


Metrics and Reporting

· Develop, monitor, and report QMS performance metrics, including audit results, nonconformities, corrective actions, supplier performance, and key process indicators.

· Analyze trends and present data-driven insights to leadership to support decision-making.

Requirements:

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

· Three or more years of experience in quality engineering or manufacturing quality assurance is preferred.

· Expert working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 requirements and quality management system principles.

· Proficiency in statistical process controls.

· Strong understanding of process-based and risk-based quality management.

· Experience leading internal and external audits.

· Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and work effectively across all organizational levels.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.

· Clear, concise written and verbal communication.

· Experience with supplier quality management, auditing, and inspection processes.

· Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

· Proficiency with root cause analysis and continuous improvement tools (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone, PDCA, FMEA).


EDUCATION

· Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering, or equivalent technical experience.

· ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification is preferred.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The duties of this position are carried out in an office environment, a manufacturing production environment, and at customer and supplier sites, as required. Exposure to fumes, noise, and gases from equipment or machinery might occur. The ability to work in these environments for extended periods of time and to perform moderate lifting are required. Safety shoes and safety glasses must be utilized when working in production areas.

The base pay range for this full-time position is $80,000 – $108,000. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. In addition, our ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
