Job description

Title: Affordable Housing Tax Intern

FLSA: Non-exempt

Location: Flaherty Salmin CPAs, 2300 Buffalo Rd, Building 200, Rochester, NY (On-site)

Work Hours:. Our standard office hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.


Flaherty Salmin CPAs is a full-service public accounting firm with specialties in affordable housing, small business tax, and peer review. We're currently hiring paid, full-time interns for the January-April tax season, with a focus on affordable housing tax. This is a great opportunity for accounting students to gain real-world experience in a supportive, team-oriented environment.

We're looking for motivated, detail-oriented interns who are available to work up to 40 hours per week. We offer flexible scheduling based on availability and workload while maintaining a school-first culture that prioritizes academic responsibilities. Interns gain hands-on experience, receive support and mentorship from experienced professionals, and have access to resources designed to help them grow and succeed. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of affordable housing partnership tax returns and related assignments.
  • Effectively utilize technology tools and software in assigned tasks.
  • Communicate regularly with your supervisor regarding project status and any challenges in completing tax assignments.
  • Ask questions and seek clarification when unsure about your tasks, as you are here to learn and grow in the field.
  • Contribute ideas to improve efficiency, accuracy, or compliance in affordable housing tax processes.
  • Adhere to the firm's procedures and systems to maintain consistency and quality in all assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and client needs in the affordable housing tax area.

Essential Skills & Abilities

  • Active enrollment in an accredited accounting program.
  • Basic understanding of professional communication; eager to learn and contribute.
  • Willingness to ask questions and be open to feedback for continued development.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including basic Excel formulas and formatting; experience with accounting software is a plus.

Education and Experience


Currently enrolled as a sophomore or higher in a relevant bachelor's degree program (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Business).


Physical Requirements

Typical office environment involving prolonged periods of sitting and computer work, along with the ability to reliably commute and be punctual for scheduled shifts.


Salary Range


$22.00 - $24.00 per hour based on experience
