Job description

Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Location: The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid status of reporting to any Consumers Energy Service Center every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with home office flexibility on Wednesday and Friday.

General Summary of Job Responsibilities
As a Summer Intern, you will work alongside industry professionals on real-world projects that drive impact across our operations. Whether you're analyzing energy consumption data, supporting infrastructure upgrades, or contributing to clean energy initiatives, your work will help shape a more sustainable and efficient energy future. Interns of all levels will work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support and design/development for various engineering, engineering technology, IT, Security, Business aspects of our business. This could include work in energy delivery - electric engineering, gas engineering, energy operations, cyber security, information technology and more. Interns will help create a better tomorrow for the communities we serve! In addition to working alongside full-time employees carrying out the duties of each business function for the company, interns will have the option to participate in a number of additional optional events within the program. This includes Intern networking events, company tours, and the consistently top-ranked philanthropic event, the Intern Challenge.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Discuss problems, prioritize work, and provide technical expertise.
  • Supports the administrative activities of the work area such as data entry, copy, filing, document organizing.
  • Design and Improving processes to ensure efficiency and reliability while performing regular maintenance with problem analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support and development for various supply chain aspects of our business. This could include work in; project management, emergency management, finance, human resources, strategy, governance and compliance, supplier diversity, inventory and sourcing analytics, supplier performance, supplier control, issue resolution, warehousing and more.
  • Cyber security roles may involve either deploying new security technologies or using our existing tools and processes to detect and respond to security incidents. Physical security roles work with our field investigators in a variety of capacities responding to incidents, conducting investigations and completing small projects. Compliance roles assist our team with managing various regulatory requirements such as NERC/CIP, PCI and TSA regulations. This work includes monitoring of controls, audits, assessments and small projects. Our program management function has a variety of needs including project management, process mapping/creation, security awareness, risk and privacy.
  • Provide hands on support and assistance and application of engineering techniques to teams for development of for various projects and tasks. Demonstrate the ability to apply standard engineering techniques and theories to help solve basic problems.
  • Ability to perform and design experiments and write summary test reports. Analyzing and collecting data and recording findings. Testing and evaluating production process to find areas for further improvements.

Education
The following MUST be true to be eligible for an Intern role.
  • A current student
  • Currently pursuing Bachelor's in Engineering at ABET school
  • [OR] Currently pursuing a Master's in Engineering at ABET school
  • [OR] Currently pursuing an Engineering-related Master's while having completed a Bachelor's in
    Engineering at ABET school
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 2.7 or higher

Preferred
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to new assignments and projects
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Attitude and aptitude to learn new skills and concepts
  • Ability and willingness to work independently or as part of a team in order to complete tasks
  • Prior work and/or internship experience
  • Hands-on experience with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
