Job Purpose
A Software Intern position is a learning-oriented role aimed at individuals who are currently pursuing or have recently completed their education in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. The role provides practical experience in a professional software development environment. As a Software Intern in the Advanced Rail Technology team, you will work alongside experienced software engineers and development teams to contribute to the design, development, and implementation of software solutions. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applying theoretical knowledge to real-world software projects. You will participate in various stages of software development, from design and coding to testing and deployment, and you will have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to the latest technologies and methodologies in software engineering.

Education / Training
Required:
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
Key Job Elements
• Assist in Software Development: Contribute to coding and development tasks under the guidance of senior developers, using programming languages and tools relevant to the project.
• Testing and Debugging: Help in testing new software applications, identifying bugs, and providing solutions to ensure high-quality software products.
• Documentation: Assist in the preparation of technical documentation for software applications, including user guides, system manuals, and other project documentation.
• Research and Learning: Engage in research to identify new technologies, tools, and methodologies that can improve the development process or product functionality.
• Collaboration: Participate in team meetings, code reviews, and collaborative programming sessions to learn best practices and gain feedback on your work.
Qualifications and Experience
• Basic proficiency in at least one programming language (experience with the following is a plus: C#, Python, Rust, Java, Ruby).
• Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
• Familiarity with software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) is a plus.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions:
• Strength - This is a traditional office setting and requires the occasional lifting of weight of 50lbs. Lifting boxes of paper.
• Motion - This is a traditional office setting and requires the use of a computer, keyboard and other equipment. Employee will be sitting the majority of the day with occasional walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling and driving.
• Vision/Hearing Requirements - Must be able to communicate with customers and coworkers and utilize all office equipment.
• Work Environment - Work is in office sitting and not exposed to extremes of heat and cold. The position may require some work on the manufacturing floor that could expose candidate to all environmental aspects.
• Emotional Demands - Employee is expected to quickly pick up tasks in a fast-paced office environment and maybe required to give presentation, speak in public and work in teams.
• Safety - This is not a safety sensitive position. The position will require the use of all site-specific PPE.
