Job description

Job Description
Job Summary/Objective:
The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and
productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co-ops with
"real world" applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment
after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of
study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.
Note: All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

Key Responsibilities
• Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and
will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.
• You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational
leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.
• You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and
offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and
community service /volunteer initiatives.
• You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to
a world-class program community.
• Finally, our rising senior interns and co-ops are considered for full-time employment opportunities.
Long Description
Position Summary
The 2027 Summer Intern will support Corporate Accounting's lease accounting transformation, with a primary focus on migrating lease data to a new software platform and helping centralize lease accounting across Southwire. This role will provide hands-on experience in data integrity, system migration, testing, process documentation, and core lease accounting activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with structured data, grounded in fundamental accounting concepts, and curious enough to investigate issues through resolution.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing, cleansing, organizing, and validating lease data for migration to the new lease accounting software.
  • Reconcile source data to lease agreements, accounting records, and system reports; investigate and document differences.
  • Support data mapping and conversion activities, including identifying missing, inconsistent, or duplicate information.
  • Execute defined system and user acceptance test scenarios; document results, defects, and follow-up items.
  • Validate migrated lease data and system calculations for completeness and accuracy.
  • Assist in developing process documentation, standard operating procedures, and control support for centralized lease accounting.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Accounting and cross-functional stakeholders to gather information and resolve data or process issues.
  • Summarize project status, findings, and recommendations for the project team and intern project expo.
  • Perform other accounting and project-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Completion of introductory accounting coursework; exposure to lease accounting or ASC 842 is a plus, but not required.
  • Comfort working with structured data and large data sets; strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including sorting, filtering, lookups, and basic data validation; experience with Power Query or other data tools is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze discrepancies, ask thoughtful questions, and follow issues through resolution.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong organization, planning, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
