Trane Technologies is currently seeking an Associate Software Product Test Engineer to join our Controls Software Test team in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The selected individual will be responsible for preparing, conducting and reporting on the testing of embedded-based software for Trane Commercial HVAC products.
What you will do:
  • Analyzing functional requirements, to generate a comprehensive set of test cases.
  • Writing functional test procedures and automated test scripts that provide comprehensive testing of the product requirements.
  • Executing test procedures and automated test scripts as part of formal product testing.
  • Conducting exploratory testing based on detailed knowledge of the product under test.
  • Reporting product issues within the defect tracking system.
  • Verifying product defect fixes.
  • Helping build and maintain the engineering test facilities (test room, test hardware and test software)
  • Assisting in the development of hardware and software simulators when appropriate
  • Helping to advance testing tools, technology, and processes within Controls Engineering.
  • Make recommendations for improvement of the product testing process.
  • Individual should be able to:
  • Meet short- and long-term deadlines.
  • Effectively meet the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Work regularly and dependably.
  • Function in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to cope with stress and maintain a pleasant and cooperative temperament with internal and external customers.

What you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science (or related discipline), or commensurate experience in software development or software testing is required.
  • Should have demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (i.e excel macros, pivot tables, xml files, excel formulas & commands) and MS Project.
  • Must understand and adhere to safety measures when working with electrical equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others both in writing and verbally.
  • Course work or experience in the following areas is desired: current test methodologies, quality assurance practices, and object-oriented and component-based product development.
  • Experience developing software using AI tools is desired.
  • Completed or served as an engineering intern contributing to embedded controls development, software implementation, and structured software testing is desired.
  • Experience with automated testing is desired.
  • Programming experience is desired. (python, c, c++, others)
  • Knowledge of industrial/embedded controls and building control systems is desired.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration cycle/chillers is desired.
  • Experience testing and configuring embedded controllers is desired.
