Get to Know This Role
The Information Services (IS) department supports the brewery by providing technological solutions and support to all business units. A software design services intern will help in implementation and support of the various technical solutions. The Intern will experience a wide variety of areas within software development. A software design services intern will help with implementation and support of the various technical solutions. The Intern will experience a wide variety of areas within software development. This position requires a minimum of 15 hours per week, up to a maximum of 20, depending on schedule, for a duration of 6 months. Throughout the internship, the Intern will take on a project tailored to their skill level, educational focus, and business needs and priorities. In addition to day-to-day support and troubleshooting, the Intern will also lead a discovery and documentation project evaluating existing systems to identify functionality that is redundant, replaceable, or a candidate for optimization.

What You Will Do
  • Support and maintain existing software systems
  • Gather requirements from users for new development and existing projects.
  • Design and develop software solutions to meet requirements.
  • Prepare and present software solutions
  • Document code for internal use and end-user best practice
  • Participate in software code reviews
  • Document and categorize existing software and automation systems, identifying redundant, replaceable, or optimization opportunities
  • Perform Unit and End user testing of new software development
  • Must be able to work at least 15-20 hours a week
  • A pattern of regular, prompt, dependable attendance is essential to the position
  • Regular check-ins with supervisor to stay aligned on priorities and progress

  • Must be a CSU, Chico or Butte Community College Student, majoring in Computer Science or Information Systems required

  • Team Player - must be willing to help where needed
  • Eager to learn new concepts and methods
  • Basic understanding of software life cycles
  • Preferred familiarity with RDBMS: Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL
  • Preferred familiarity with OO programming / scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, C#, TypeScript
  • Know when to ask questions or ask for assistance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Creativity and ingenuity in problem solving is desired
  • A personal or academic side project you're passionate about (an app, game, automation script, etc.) is a strong plus
