Senior RF Electrical Engineer

With more than 30 offices worldwide, a global installed base, and customers that include the world's largest semiconductor manufacturers, our team continues to grow. We are currently hiring a Senior RF Electrical Engineer to work out of our corporate office in Beverly, MA.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and validation of RF systems and subsystems used in semiconductor capital equipment
  • Perform RF chain analysis including gain, noise figure, linearity, and stability across system architecture
  • Design and optimize matching networks for power transfer, efficiency, and signal integrity
  • Develop RF PCB layouts, including controlled impedance routing, grounding strategies, and signal isolation
  • Conduct network measurements and analysis using lab equipment such as vector network analyzers and spectrum analyzers
  • Design and characterize RF resonators, filters, and passive components
  • Develop low-noise oscillators and RF signal generation circuits
  • Perform system-level integration of RF subsystems with power, control systems, and electromechanical assemblies
  • Run simulations using 3D electromagnetic and RF simulation tools to validate designs and reduce risk
  • Conduct experimental testing, analyze performance data, and drive iterative design improvements
  • Ensure adherence to product development processes including:
    • Requirements definition
    • System architecture
    • Design reviews
    • Verification and validation testing
  • Ensure designs meet applicable safety, regulatory, and industry standards
  • Select RF components and materials based on frequency performance, thermal behavior, and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver manufacturable, high-performance designs
  • Support supplier selection and evaluate vendor capabilities for RF components and assemblies
  • Provide technical leadership in RF design best practices, signal integrity, and system optimization
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in RF and high-frequency hardware design
  • Strong experience with:
    • RF system design and analysis
    • Matching network design and tuning
    • RF PCB layout and stack-up definition
    • RF measurement techniques and lab instrumentation
  • Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (e.g., VNA, spectrum analyzer, signal generators)
  • Solid understanding of signal integrity, electromagnetic behavior, and noise mitigation
  • Experience participating in technical design reviews and structured development processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in:
    • Semiconductor capital equipment
    • RF power delivery systems or plasma systems
    • Oscillator and frequency synthesis design
    • Resonator or filter design
  • Experience with RF simulation tools (e.g., HFSS, CST, ADS, or similar 3D EM tools)
  • PCB design experience using tools such as Altium or PADS
  • Familiarity with Creo Schematic, AutoCAD, or similar tools
  • Experience with Windchill or other PLM systems
  • Experience working with global or offshore engineering teams

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE
$124,050.32 - $186,075.49
This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on
multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work
location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as
you develop within the role.
Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the
Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular
employees working 20+ hours a week).
