Job description

Internship positions available within both the residential and/or IOP Substance Use Disorder Treatment programs.

The alcohol and drug counselor student intern is in a training position and by the end of his/her contracted training, will learn all aspects of the direct and non-direct service provision and the direction of treatment of clients in a 245G Licensed Non-Residential Substance Use Disorder treatment program. The alcohol and drug counselor intern is supervised by an alcohol and drug counselor supervisor who is responsible for all treatment services performed by the student intern and must review and sign all assessments, individual treatment plans, individual treatment plan review and progress notes, and discharge summaries prepared by the intern.

Requirements

  • Support the mission and philosophy of Integrations Wellness & Recovery Center, LLC through personal conduct and concern for management, co-workers, clients, and the community at large, both during and outside of work hours, including what is represented on social media.
  • Contribute to the growth of Integrations Wellness & Recovery Center through ideas and suggestions, adapting to the changing needs of the position and program as they occur.
  • Report to and serve with the Treatment Director, Clinical Director and ADC Supervisor to ensure effective treatment for all clients served. Provide services only within the scope of practice for the license you are training to obtain.
  • Orient clients to their rights and responsibilities while participating in services at Integrations Wellness & Recovery Center, LLC (including all components required by MN 245G).
  • Provide direct service to clients, including assessments, intakes, referrals, consultations, treatment coordination services and individual sessions, as well as facilitate random urine drug testing according to agency policy in order to determine and structure the treatment around individual client needs.
  • Clinically facilitate group therapy and provide education and quality treatment, through the use of evidence based practices, to program clients.
  • Develop specific, person-centered, individualized treatment plans with clients and review weekly to monitor progress and make changes as necessary.
  • Maintain client records consistent with program Policies and Procedures, MN 245G, and payer specific requirements, including but not limited to comprehensive assessments, comprehensive assessment summaries, initial service plans, individual treatment plans, progress notes/treatment plan reviews, discharge summaries, and treatment coordination, observing appropriate timeframes.
  • Make referrals for necessary adjunct services based on client need. Strive for the fullest level of integration possible in treatment planning with both internal and external agencies, documenting such integration within the client file.
  • Be knowledgeable in and provide all functions of the job in accordance with the Ethical Standards of one's profession and follow all agency Policies and Procedures.
  • Complete all required continuing education and training requirements as required for Licensure and MN 245G requirements, including maintaining enrollment and good standing in the Internship course that formally places you at this specific program.
  • Attend and participate in all Multidisciplinary Case Consultations and Staff Meetings as required based on position.
  • Other duties as appropriate and assigned to support the operation of the program.

Employment Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be free from problematic substance use, as defined by Integrations Wellness & Recovery Center, LLC's policy, for a minimum of two (2) years prior to hiring as attested to by signing the Freedom From Problematic Substance Use form. Maintain freedom from problematic substance use in accordance with agency policy, including willingness to submit to random drug testing, throughout the duration of employment/internship placement.
  • Able to document competency in screening for and providing services to clients with co-occurring mental and chemical health problems, through education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate well with others.
  • Able to pass a background check through the MN Department of Human Services NetStudy 2.0 process.

Education and Training Required:

  • Maintain enrollment in an approved Alcohol and Drug Counselor student internship Program at an accredited college and be under formal agreement with the education program placing the student intern specifically at Integrations Wellness & Recovery Center, LLC and provide documentation of such, which will be maintained in the personnel file.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Substance Use Disorders, Mental Health Conditions and Families preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher with an emphasis in the Substance Use Disorder field, with additional emphasis in Mental Health strongly preferred, but willing to consider an individual enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program.
  • 30 hours of instruction or 1 three credit semester college course in adolescent Development or willingness to obtain during internship.
