Summary/Objective

The Senior Data Analyst, Clinical & Commercial Analytics is a highly accountable, hands-on analytics leader responsible for delivering timely, high-impact insights to support Commercial and Medical Affairs teams. This role owns analytics intake, prioritization, execution, and stakeholder communication across multiple competing demands.
The ideal candidate is a strong technical analyst who thrives in an environment with real delivery pressure, is comfortable pushing back and negotiating priorities, and consistently turns complex clinical, device, and commercial data into clear, actionable answers. This role personally performs most analyses end-to-end, while collaborating closely with Data Science and Cloud Engineering teams to ensure consistency, reuse of validated methods, and scalable analytics where appropriate.
This is not a research or publication-focused role. Success is measured by impact, velocity, clarity, and trust with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

[Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Qualified candidates who need a reasonable accommodation with the application process and/or to perform the essential functions of the position should notify the company's HR contact]

Analytics Delivery & Ownership

  • Own the full lifecycle of analytics requests across Commercial and Medical Affairs teams, from intake and prioritization through execution and delivery.
  • Personally perform end-to-end data analysis using Python, SQL, and Tableau across clinical, device (AID system), and commercial (Salesforce CRM) data sources.
  • Translate ambiguous or complex questions into well-defined, efficient analyses that deliver timely and credible answers.
  • Generate evidence and insights to support commercial, medical, safety, outcomes, sales, and marketing narratives (e.g., safety in specific use cases, outcomes in fully closed-loop usage, real-world performance).

Stakeholder Management & Prioritization

  • Actively manage competing priorities between Commercial and Medical Affairs stakeholders.
  • Maintain a transparent, prioritized backlog of analytics work and delivery status using JIRA.
  • Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and delivery timelines clearly and proactively.
  • Push back on low-value or inefficient requests and help stakeholders reframe questions to obtain faster, simpler, or more appropriate answers.
  • Serve as a trusted analytics partner who balances scientific rigor with business urgency.

Technical Excellence & Collaboration

  • Use Python for data wrangling, analysis, and visualization, leveraging validated statistical libraries developed by the Data Science team.
  • Develop reproducible, well-documented analysis workflows that support consistency and reuse.
  • Collaborate with Data Science and Cloud Engineering teams to operationalize recurring analyses or metrics where appropriate (e.g., scheduled computation of key outcomes or usage metrics to enable scalable querying).
  • Build stakeholder-facing dashboards and visualizations in Tableau that clearly communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure alignment with data governance, privacy (HIPAA), and internal standards.

Communication & Influence

  • Present findings clearly and confidently to Commercial, Medical Affairs, and cross-functional audiences.
  • Tailor messaging appropriately for scientific, clinical, and business stakeholders without compromising data integrity.
  • Establish credibility through clarity, responsiveness, and consistent delivery.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative, technical, or life sciences field.
    • 5+ years of hands-on experience performing data analysis in healthcare, medical devices, life sciences, or a related regulated environment.
    • Strong technical proficiency in Python, SQL, and Tableau.
    • Demonstrated ability to independently own analytics workstreams and deliver results under competing priorities.
    • Strong communication skills, with experience translating complex data into clear, actionable insights.
    • Proven track record of accountability, follow-through, and high personal output.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong background in diabetes, metabolic disease, or automated insulin delivery systems.
    • Experience working with real-world device data and outcomes analytics.
    • Experience analyzing or integrating CRM data (e.g., Salesforce) with clinical or product data.
    • Familiarity with JIRA or similar tools for managing work intake and delivery.
    • Experience collaborating with data science and engineering teams in a production analytics environment.
    • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment with senior stakeholders.

    What Success Looks Like

    • Commercial and Medical Affairs teams have a clear, trusted point of contact for analytics.
    • Requests are prioritized transparently, with predictable delivery and visible progress.
    • Stakeholders receive timely, credible answers that directly support decision-making and external narratives.
    • Reusable analytics and metrics reduce ad hoc effort over time.
    • The analytics function is seen as a partner, not a bottleneck or a service desk.

    Work Environment

    • This role is expected to work on-site in the San Diego office and collaborate closely with Commercial, Medical Affairs, and cross-functional partners.
    • Occasional travel may be required.
    • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, and scanners.

    Physical Demands

    • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to be independently mobile. The employee is also required to interact with a computer, and communicate with co-workers.

San Diego, CA. This is an on-site/in-person role.

    • FSA and HSA Plan Options, including an annual company contribution to the HSA
