Veterinary Technician/Nurse (Large Animal Hospital)

Job Description:
Job Summary
The Purdue Veterinary Hospital is looking for a credentialed veterinary technician for our Equine and Farm Animal ICU. This role will focus on inpatient treatments and involves physical exams, critical patient monitoring, medication calculation and administration, and patient status communication with veterinarians, students, and veterinary technicians. We are looking for someone with a passion for patient care, the desire to think on their feet, and someone who enjoys learning and teaching on every shift. This schedule is made up of rotating 10-hour shifts that will include overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
The veterinary technicians at Purdue Veterinary Hospital have the opportunity to continually learn new skills and techniques. This knowledge leads to teaching those skills to veterinary and veterinary nursing students. We are looking for someone with a background in handling both equine and farm animal species as well as a good base knowledge of inpatient treatments.

What We're Looking For:
  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program
  • Must be RVT in Indiana within 12 months of starting employment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willing to teach clinical skills and concepts to students
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations

Nice to Have:
  • Experience working with horses, cows, pigs, goats, and sheep
  • Experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital or specialty veterinary hospital
