Position Description:

The Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) Intern program at Hensel Phelps offers a hands-on opportunity to support the core IT services that power our nationwide construction operations. Interns will be placed across teams in Service Delivery, Infrastructure, Network, and Field Operations, gaining exposure to enterprise technologies across on-premises and cloud environments. Projects may include supporting end-user experience, deploying and maintaining infrastructure, assisting with jobsite mobilizations, monitoring system health, or enhancing network performance. This internship is ideal for students interested in real-world IT operations, cloud technologies, and delivering reliable, modern IT services in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

IT Interns will apply their knowledge and experience in a fast-paced, innovative company, all while working with the latest technology and tools. Interns will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor. If you are passionate about processes, efficiency gains, development, security, or are a data junkie, our internship is for you. We will have multiple internships each year, each of which will be focused on one area of IT during the internship.

 Position Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or a related program at an accredited university.
  • For operations internships – understanding of desktop/laptop hardware and Microsoft software, some understanding of networking equipment, approaches, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to seek out technical solutions and be self-directed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced virtual environment, while communicating with internal stakeholders regarding the status of key deliverables.
  • Task-oriented with strong organizational skills.

 Essential Duties:

  • Get hands-on experience in different technology focus areas
  • Actively participate in discussions regarding process improvement to develop new ways of delivering products and services to meet the growing needs of the business.
  • Actively engage with IT team members and leadership to gain broad and specific technical topics.

 Physical Work Classification & Demands:

• Light Work. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

• The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and office activity.

• Walking - The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc.

• Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, computer, and computer printer.

• The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office administration.

• Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.

• Constantly reads written communications and views email submissions.

• The person in this position regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen.

• Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.

• Rarely exposed to high and low temperatures 

• Rarely exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Compensation Range (Colorado Only)
